I would just keep the Nissan, I had a Frontier and an Xterra and they were great for 100,000+ miles, traded before I had problems. Had two Tacomas, they were and are fine.

If you think the Frontier problems are bad just read around at all the bitching and whining about shifting issues and lack of power on the Tacoma.

I honestly never had to turn a wrench on either Nissan other than a power window quit working on the Xterra.

How long are you planning on keeping the vehicle? The Tacoma has better resale value but are usually more expensive to get into. If you plan on long term ownership the Tacoma is the better option, it will hold up better past 200k miles no doubt.

The frontier has a better engine in terms of power delivery. Better toque down low and and quicker less clunky AT. That being said the Tacoma has a smoother more refined engine, feels a little more premium than the frontier.

The Tacoma has much better QC hands down. Nissan has struggled financially in the last decade and it shows. They are definitely less reliable. My friend blew his alternator with only 10,000 miles on his 21.

The fit and finish of the interior in the Tacoma feels higher quality. On tech they are fairly similar, I don’t believe a heated steering wheel is an option in a Tacoma.

The Tacoma is better off-road, better trac control system and far better rear articulation. Also has a more robust IFS than the frontier IMO.

If you are in the north the Frontier probably wont rust the frame out in a few years, if thats important. LMAO

I see more Nissan Hardbody trucks on the road than I do Toyota PickUps. They don't build them like they use to.

I wonder why that is. Did the Toyotas rust away? Did they all make their way to Mexico? Do people have them stashed in their garage?

It's not like I see Hardbody trucks every day.

Yes the Frontiers Frame will hold up, but the rest of the truck won't....

My Taco's Frame will hold up simply because I rustproof yearly, and so will the rest of the truck. Real simple!

    Sounds like a manufacturer defect?:notsure:

I wouldn't expect any untreated frame not to rust. I would fully expect a Toyota drivetrain to out last any other manufacturer. I like the Tacoma overall out of any other midsize. I still think the current Ranger is the best midsize available, not sure about the longevity of the 2.3 turbo, but the rest of truck seems to be well designed.

I can answer this without input from OP.

He wants the SR5 Offroad Pro. I think they make an aftermarket bedside decal for it.

I based that comment on CR. They gave the same exact overall score to both the Tacoma and Frontier but the Tacoma is rated above average for reliability and the Frontier is rated below average.

The SV Trim on a frontier would be equal to the SR or SR5 tacoma trim.
U would have to get on each manufactuers website and compare standard equipment and available options for each one

I don't know how to describe CR. I think they is simply more excitement around the Tacoma, I think that's why it scores so high, and comands the new and used prices that it does. People were lining up to pay 20k over MSRP for the things!

I mean it's really up to you. Do you like the tacoma more than the frontier? Does it financially make sense for you? I mean you're asking on a tacoma forum so most of us are obviously biased .

    Anyways though
Super accurate though, my family has a '17 Nissan Armada with 85k ish (first year for redesign) and it was ok for the first few years, now it's had countless issues. First was a leaky tranny cooler. Eh, happens right? Then we discover oil coating the whole underside of the engine. Leaking timing cover. Take it in to the dealer and at that point it was either in warranty or barely out. Engine out job. They covered it anyway thankfully. That was a pain in the ass. Then, maybe another year down the road, the airbag light starts flashing out of nowhere. Take it in, and they replace some module. My family still had to pay a good couple grand. Light off for a few months maybe, if that. Light back on. They take it back in. Main wiring harness. Another 2 grand maybe just for that. They covered the labor and took it to nissan corporate. We get it back, and light's off for now. Hoping it stays off or comes back on at the same time, kind of want them to get rid of it, but I mean money is real at the same time. Then once we got it back, noticed the windshield was cracked after we got it back, and it wasn't before we dropped it off. Now it's going back to the dealer at some point to get fixed.

Might have missed a few details but you get the point. Nissan kinda sucks nowadays, coupled with the fact that it was the first year of a redesign.

If you ask me, I think the light's gonna come right back on because electronics are a never-ending nightmare. I the dealer offered to buy the truck back if it happens again.

This isn't the case with every vehicle obviously, but we certainly never had these issues with the toyotas we had. Had an '04 Sequoia Limited before the Armada and it was great. Don't know why we ever sold it. Had other toyotas too.

Now my direct family has a nissan and infiniti, and me with the toyota. Loved my first gen tundra enough to make me want another toyota truck after it got totaled. Extended family has mostly toyota's and they've been great.

The nissans we have drive great and all, until they don't. Makes me question Nissan's quality.

    Choice is yours.

    End TED Talk.

If u do decide to trade, I would do it the last week of the year between Christmas and New Years. Thats considered the best time to get the best price on a vehicle.

My take is Nissian just released a new generation that gets rated equal to a 2016 design Tacoma. In another year or so after the new Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, and 4th gen Tacoma are released its gonna be well behind and outdated again

I've got zero complaints with my 2020 sr5....best truck to date. It meets all the needs i use it for. I've had toyota's since the late 70's, some a bit better than others, but i never had a real bad one.
