Wiring up new switch panel - Disconnect power when vehicle locked?

I recently picked up a switch panel and am exploring where I want it to draw power (acc power for the panel itself). I know I can tap directly off the battery or an ignition source but that's not what I'm looking for. Ideally I want to tap off a source that cuts power once the vehicle is locked. My motivation for this is I want to power down the switch panel at night when I've gone to bed and locked the vehicle while camping, but while I'm getting into the fridge or the bed (vehicle unlocked) be able to run auxiliary lights,

I've thought about tapping off security system but that would likely be powered off until locked (opposite of what I want). I've also considered tapping off of the interior lighting system but im unsure whether the time out of the system would cut power.

I am hoping someone might have some insight before I spend the day poking around the fuse box with a Multimeter locking and unlocking the car 100 times. TIA

 

Wire up a SPDT (single pole double throw) relay. Ignition power for the relay coil. Connect whatever you want powered on when the truck is off to the NC (normally closed) side of the relay. Input can just be battery power.

 

Or buy a split fuse panel where one side is constant power for your lights and stuff and the other side is powered off a ignition source.

Use the voltage sense and timer functions on something like this...

No need to tap into any wires on your OEM harness.

This particular one has three zones that can be set to either "ignition/voltage sense", Timed, or constant power and you can change the timer length for each zone as well.

 

Have you done business with this company? Seems like they are on point with their business model, for lack of better words, wiring.for Dummies.

 

Easiest way is to use a latching relay powered off the central locking system. Something like this.

Not on a Toyota but they are a very reputable company. They make complete wiring harnesses for classic car restoration, engine swaps, trans swaps, and stuff like that. I’ll be ordering that kit I linked for my 84 Chevy that is getting LS swapped.
