Okay this is a good question really. The original post didn't make it clear what kind of lights they were. And I thought it was funny that he should be asking the group if he should install lights or not haha what does it matter what other people think. So what kind of lights are these are these like the big flood lights that make people close their eyes When approaching.? If that's the case and I would say no don't install them or just don't use them while driving on the street. If not if theyre some other light then why not?

I put 249K miles on my 2008 Tacoma. Personally changed the oil (49) times at each 5K mark. The entire 14 1/2 years I owned it the total repair costs was around $350 for one front hub, center console latch and the heater blower resisitor/connector. Traded it in on a 2020 model which I had to get tuned ASAP so it ran somewhat like a truck engine is supposed to run.

I think the '08 Tacoma was the same drivetrain as the 4Runners then. Similar experience w/ my 4R: 233k miles, 1 radiator and 1 gas cap. I just sold it to my son and hope like hell he will take reasonable care of it as it still runs and drives perfectly; just a bit of rust around the 3rd brake light. I'm hoping this Tacoma is similar.

Grille lights = cosmetic lights installed in the grille. The correct term for “raptor lights”.
Aside from asking advice and pissing matches, this entire forum is showing off or asking what others think, so I’m not sure why that particular question tickled your fancy…
And I still don’t know if I should have a pitchfork or a party hat

I appreciate the update. I've always called those 4 amber lights 'Marker Lights', usually found on vehicles exceeding a specific width, I know they go by other names as well recently such as Raptor lights, etc., further, folks put all kind of lights on grills behind grills, etc. There was no context surrounding what lights were being discussed, for example, if someone posted "I need help, what's the torque for this bolt", and showed no picture or offered no background information giving any indication to which bolt was being discussed.

Sorry to ruffle any feathers guys. :notsure:

I think "grill light" is the proper term for a light source mounted on or in or behind the grill. Maybe even above or below and to the side of the grill too.

One should be careful of the color. There are ordinances as to color and position. Offroad, they are probably fine. While on the road? Better be smart about the law.:bananadead:

Didn’t mean to come off as swarthy. I just meant that this whole place is about asking for opinions and was joking about you replying both yes and no to the post in question. Sorry for my poor communication.
I don’t feel like lighting behind or “on” grilles for the purpose of illumination would commonly be called grille lights, but that’s just me being pedantic and I’m probably dumb.
You are absolutely correct about marker lights! I should have specified that I meant that’s what they are called “around here”.
It’s actually 5 amber lights that indicate width (3 identifying it as wide and 2 indicating the clearance) and they are supposed to be placed high on the vehicle and spaced evenly. I’m not sure how Ford gets away with indicating that raptors are fat-asses with 3 in the grille and 2 on the fenders, but it sure is a popular look to mimic. People putting 4 in the grille of their skinny assed tacomas is just weird to me. I may find it silly, but everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to their truck.
I try and only share my opinion when asked, which is why I’ve been trying to make cracks about it after dude-man asked specifically if he should reinstall them

    :rofl:Got it!! Lol

And maybe the definition of raptor lights is marker lights mounted in the grill? I'm just not hip on stylish lighting names.
