2016 TRD Sport 100,000KM. Airbag light and seatbelt light on instrument cluster turned on randomly when I dropped off a passenger.

Airbag light is constant. "Airbag off" light for passenger is on. Seatbelt light is flashing when driving, no sound. I sat in the passenger seat and did up seatbelts, no change. Checked with code reader, no codes. Disconnected battery for 20 minutes, no change and lights are still present. checked wires underneath passenger seat, no visible issues and reconnected them.

Any thoughts? I am currently taking it in for seasonal maintenance in 2 weeks. Would be nice to figure the issue out on my own and not have to deal with a random expensive repair and having it in the shop for longer than necessary. I have seen things regarding the weight calibration and also faulty buckles but obviously want to narrow things down before I throw money at it.

On a Toyota Tacoma, there's a simple way to reset the airbag light if it's staying on. Under Your passenger's seat, You'll find a wiring harness, usually with a yellow casing -- it may sometimes be grey or black. Unclip that harness, and pull it out. This is the wiring for Your passenger's side airbag. You should be able to find it by looking for an "CAUTION" sticker, if Yours has not yet been removed. After it's removed, let it sit for 1-3 minutes, and then turn the vehicle back on. This should hopefully solve Your problem, by rebooting the connection. However, if it doesn't, it's likely that You've got a blown fuse. Check the relevant airbag fuses in Your fuse box, and replace if necessary.

Tried disconnecting the yellow wire under the seat for 5 minutes, no luck. Also checked the fuses under the dash and airbag fuse looks fine so I don't think it's that. I also looked for a fuse or a relay in the engine bay and didn't find anything.

I just have a super basic Autel code reader. Since it didn't show anything out of the ordinary when I plugged it in I don't think it can read SRS codes. I could drop a few bucks on a proper scanner but that's not at the top of my list yet.

What kind of reader do you have and do you know how to use it to access vehicle specific and safety codes?

Not every cable can pull the SRS codes.

Any additional thoughts? I haven't found any solid information on Google and I am currently leaning towards letting the dealership handle it. As it is a safety thing and theoretically not something that should break I am hoping it is covered under warranty.

Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery. While it's off, press the horn button for up to 30 seconds (this will drain the remaining battery juice). Then, reconnect the battery and start the truck.

This will reset all warning lights that are on in your truck. If the light comes back on, there's something wrong with it and you should go to the dealership. If it doesn't, it was a fluke or a sensor was stuck.

Finally had a chance to do this and the light is still on. Damn lol. Yeah going to let the dealership handle it and ask around my friends and coworkers to see if anyone has a scanner that will read SRS codes so then I can at least save a couple bucks on the diagnosis.

pro grill working on the rest.
Your Passenger airbag occupancy sensor is out or the harness that attaches to it is loose or broken.

You need a code reader that reads SRS code, they can cost a bit of money

    The code is b1650.

Most times it's a simple fix and I guess sometimes it's chasing down a wire (which can be a bitch).

    Here are the parts.

    Aftermarket Dorman $235

Toyota factory part $425 I would do this.

The stealership charges about $110 to install.

It's four bolts to flip your passenger side seat over and do it yourself.

Any follow up to this. Just curious of the outcome after taking it in to the dealer. I am having the same issue right now.

Hey yes there was a positive outcome. Dealer was able to resolve the issue for a relatively low cost. I wasn't able to track down an SRS code reader so I figured I'd just let them do the work.
