Dry Rot PREVENTION

Short - Any way to stop Dry Rot on tires ? Long - I just retired and not putting miles on anymore - her car doesn't put miles on and tires have small cracks and plenty of tread so any suggestions on what you have found that works would be appreciated - any answer or link appreciated. Thanks.

You can slow dry rot but not prevent it.

Garage it to reduce UV damage. Preventing that, cover the tires. But long term parking a car without garaging it... tires are the least of your concerns at that point honestly.

Drive it a minimum of twice a month, or a long drive once a month, not just to keep the tires from sitting, but to keep the fluids circulating and water-free.

 

Regardless your tires will time out via DOT date code on them..but maybe something like vaseline on the sidewalls may help keep them from drying out..I'm no expert so do some serious research 1st..

 

Thanks for the replies - I do drive it - I go out for beer but the brewery isn't too far away. I have read not to use petroleum products - not sure if Vaseline is included it that.

 

out of the sun, clean, dry, aired up, maintained. That's it. Start to inspect at +5 years and replace as necessary regardless of tread depth
