Happy Saturday CT. Up early cause I went to bed early because I was feeling partially under the weather.
So much to do today (non truck stuff).

I did not get the car that had the draw. I talked with the person who is looking at it and with the car off (push button start), you can still open/close the windows and sunroof. He's thinking body ECU.

My low end of professional scanner came in & I did some updating & reading on things hybrid.
I do have P0A80 replace hybrid battery pack.
BUT...
My hybrid dive shows code P3019 - battery block 2 gets weak. Not bad - 'gets weak'.
AND
I also have ABS/VSC/TRAC error code and cruise control error code.
C1235 is my dive in result - 'foreign object is attached on tip of front speed sensor RH.
So, I've got a bad speed sensor or tooth.

My reading on Prius chat showed something interesting,
A bad speed sensor will throw an ABS, VSC, and Traction Control error.
A bad speed sensor can cause the regenerative braking system to get confused & not charge the HV battery.
If regen isn't charging the HV battery, the engine will keep turning on to charge the HV battery, but battery will keep running down first.
...causing the weakest battery block to "gets weak"?
My battery blocks (pair of 2 cells) are showing 16.x volts. I want them showing 14.0-17.2v to be happy. They're happy.

So annoyed the dealer said $4k for new HV battery without suggesting replacing the bad speed sensor first.
I was ready to throw away this car. If there was a 15y.o. in my life I was ready to dump (er, give) it to them.
I knew I had bad data. So, I bought an expensive reader & here we are.

Will a speed sensor "fix" my car? Maybe, maybe not. But I'll sure start with a $220 part before the $4k job.

I'll drop the car at my mechanic who has heat & a lift & is in walking distance. Have him see if it's a tooth or the sensor.
Get whatever fixed, see how the car behaves after that. Drive it a little, clear the codes & maybe balance the HV batteries.

I do have a gateway failure trouble code. This Blown IGBT video might be my other issue. Wonder what a junkyard inverter runs?

My accessory battery the dealer told me I needed to replace immediately for $400, is 14.2 volts all these months later on a 40F day.

 

Just for fun did some research on inverter/converters. Part # G9200-47120 for my car.
$250 used, $3,500 new at the dealer. used has a 6 month warrantee. They seem to only go bad if overheated. 6 months be plenty. I'll keep the $3,250 thank you.

I enjoy wrenching on a car, but I wish I didn't HAVE TO.

I hope fixing the speed sensor issues fixes your other problems. If you do anything with the Hybrid system, be careful. You might want to look at getting a pair of protective gloves if you go that route.

Doing more tests while I do laundry. A lot of sales related stuff, I do see tech related stuff coming up.
I'll forget almost everything I did because I won't use it for quite some time. Happens when I go to Lexus training also.

I'm better at learning by doing, not reading stuff and taking tests.
