You can either use a yeti 60 half full of ice for a week if you do it right or a 35l fridge.

if you are using a cooler, it’s definitely worth buying or making blocks of ice vs using cubes

I believe @CygnusX191 was the biggest RCI sale promoter last year. I was starting to think he was getting commissions.

Yup. Plus if you want it to last a week, it’s gonna require some planning or low temps.

ideally you need to precool it, fill it with ice blocks and frozen items to 100% capacity then open it as little as possible. If you don’t do all of those things, it’ll last significantly less.

I just put my fridge in, let it chill on the drive to the store, then fill it up with whatever I want and not worry about it

Yep that sounds right. I nominate and say thank you to RCI paid shill @CygnusX191 lol.
Camping hacks: Dasani water bottles can be frozed & re-frozen over and over again thanks to the thicker walled bottles. If you buy a case of the shorty bottles and just keep them in your freezer you always have block ice ready to go. When it thaws you just have drinking water.

and I'm guessing your Engel was a bit more affordable.

See, this is exactly what I was talking about earlier!

And, I agree. I really thought a fridge would have made a lot of sense while I was traveling so much. I still think it would, but it's hard to spend the money when there are so many other things on my list.

This word "affordable" that you used...what does that mean? I'm not familiar...

Joking aside if you get one on sale it's less than a Yeti but still more of a premium item. They ain't cheap. Engel makes some pretty awesome 12V fridges too, more for the Aussie market though and pricey.

Yeah lol I have two fridges and I haven’t hardly traveled since 2019

I wish I would have had my Tacoma fully done when I was traveling all the time for work but the goosegear, suspension, solar all came after I had cut way back. Still haven’t gotten around to figuring out how I want to mount my fridge in the tundra but I think I’ve got an idea now that I’ve got the decked toolbox

    I have to 2nd this.
At Tigerton he reminded me that there was an empty space behind my bumper.

That space is no longer empty.

Like Jerry said, they only hold ice that long under ideal conditions. My Lifetime cooler has kept ice for 5 days in hot weather, but that was with some block ice and careful packing.

I use 12 oz Gatorade bottles or for longer times, I have a couple of half gallon juice bottles. When my buddy and I went to GA this fall, I used 2 half gallons in my electric cooler. (https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Powe...s=electric+coolers&qid=1673838837&sr=8-5&th=1) I kept it plugged into my truck when we drove and brought it into the motel room once we were stationary. We were out 9 days and still had ice when we got home (not much). While this worked well, I'd think the fridge would work better overall. Not losing cooler space to ice can be a big plus.

How many water bottles does it take to keep the beer & food cold for a week?
How many beers do you lose to frozen bottles?

The only answer I can give is enough bottles that I couldn't fit as much food & beer as I wanted. Which is part of why I bought a fridge. 35qt is a great size for weekend trips though, usually only needed 1-2 small bags of ice so it didn't cost much to operate.

I think it's easier to just switch to something with a higher alcohol density, and that does not need to be shilled. Brandy, Scotch, Rum Rumpleminze!...

This talk actually has me contemplating a fridge now too. The toy hauler has a fridge in it already but the second gen has an empty bed….Also going to measure the storage area in the boat because that’s what might push me over the edge to do it. I’ve never figured out a good cooler setup for it where I’m not fighting a losing battle to keep ice in a soft side or strapping a 65qt RTIC cooler to the swim platform and fighting for space to put skis on
