    Hello 50's, need advise. Had my Dad to Hershey on the 3rd for follow up for pancreas problem. They can not do procedure Dad needs, so they said they will send a referral in to UPMC in Pitt. Have not had any word on progress of referral. Dad calls doc office in Hershey, always gets voicemail and no return call. Logged on to patient portal, no record of referral being sent. Tomorrow will be two weeks and no I am not a patient person. Just want to get Dad the care he needs. Not sure how to move forward...

    Can you send a message to the doctor who referred him through the patient portal? His Medical Assistant should be able to look into the status of the referral? My wife is a medical assistant…I will ask her what she would recommend when she gets home.

    around here you have to call the 2nd doc yourself. they dont have enough people to do the leg work for you, wonder if its the same problem there? there might be order in the system with the 1st doc but there's no one to connect the dots to the 2nd office. i'd call the 2nd doc and play dumb, just to see if anyone had even contacted them

    Call the patient advocate at Hershey. Is the doc affiliated with the medical center. Also on a side note Johns Hopkins may be an alternative and actually a little closer for you.

    My wife agreed that you should email the referring doctor letting them know that the referral was not received by the other office. Then call the other office and let them know so that they can reach out and get the ball rolling.
