Stripped Thermostat Housing Nut

Today I was in the process of replacing my radiator and doing a thermostat replacement.

So two things happened:

1. The plastic fastners that hold the grill where brittle and broke. Where can i order some and what are they actually called?

2. I found that one of the thermostat housing nuts was stripped by whomever replaced the last thermostat. So tomorrow I'm going to take it off. But my dilemma is where can I get another 6 point nut?

Are these nuts special order nuts? Or can I go to my local auto parts store and replace it?

Auto parts or hardware store

 

Any hardware store; it'll be metric.

I hate when people strip nuts that could easily be prevented; I specifically bought (and suggest to others) a nice swivel and 6 point socket that grabs the walls of a nut or bolt to prevent from corners getting rounded.

 

Any good hardware store will have a flange nut that size. Get a grade 8 or better and use a 6 point socket instead of a 12 point to save yourself some grief.

 

Those plastic tabs that connect the grill to the front end can be purchased at the dealership or online. I'm wary of Amazon because of fakes but here they are.

The nut is either 6x1.0 or 8x1.25

 

when working on these vehicles a box of M6x1.0 , M8x1.25 ,M10x1.25 and

$13 M12x1.25 mm Self-Locking Nylon Insert Hex Lock Nuts, Pack of 6

M12x1.25 JIS** nuts if you can find them

will cover most of your dropped or rounded hardware.
