Thank you! I’ll check em out. I care about comfort and durability, sounds like these would fit the bill if I can find them wide enough.

I just went and looked at a house right off Tanque verde just west of houghton. I have always liked it in that area. I grew up in Catalina.

I missed so much yesterday. I wear tie die Crocks and socks on the reg and don’t give a fuck who doesn’t like it. I also tend to wear a lot of tie die shirts. Nothing better for breaking up the outline of a gun and no one expects the guy wearing tie die to be carrying.
    Zero fucks given. :bananadead:

kinetic rope seems to be the interest right now, maybe tie a small kinetic to each flipper and they'll take turns pulling each other out of the last step. hell you might even walk faster without trying.

maybe you know, maybe you dont, but aluminum is sticky on rocks, that might be part of that door issue. but like you said, it has advantages.

i aint touchin an oil change topic,,, nope, not gonna do it. just find a routine your happy with.

My take on recovery gear: I'm frequently out in BFE, a lot of it solo, so I don't skimp on quality...

    Brain Housing Group
    Winch
    30' kinetic rope
    30' tow strap
    15' tree saver
    Soft shackles
    Bow shackles
    Rope retention pulley (snatch block)
    Deadman
    Traction boards
    Shovel

Do I need it all? Nope, but I'd rather have it than not, and I'm also equipped to help others.

I second this list, I have everything but a deadman and tree savers. Last weekend i followed some friends in there Razors and generals, and used every piece of gear I had on board. Bashed my own rig up a bit, but spent most the time winching them over rocks and dragging them outta deep water.
I look at recovery gear as in rather have it and not need it mentality. 25' flat tow strap has done wonders, a rope would be a nice addition for mud or sand.

    On the topic of skids,
I made my own front skid and though it would save a little weight using 11gauge and re enforcing it with 3/16"flat bar. After that saturday of bashing and crashing i need to re build and its all going 3/16" steel. I feel aluminum doesnt "slide" over rocks easily and would gouge more than steel.. front skid.jpg

People actually come from all over to run mt. Lemon.... I can hear people screaming up the mountain on the weekends pretty regularly. Used to run my Buell up and down whenever I was bored. Carving pavement is in my past now.

There was a whole pile of reasonably thin UHMWPE that was going to get scrapped out at my old work and I nearly yoinked it for experimenting. I thought maybe aluminum with UHMWPE stuck on it would make a kind of composite armor that would slide over rocks even better than steel would.

My concern was it'd probably just tear if it was too thin. Though I do think the idea has merit for making as a kind of bolt-on applique I'd probably be pissing in the wind in epic fashion (as is generally my style )... the fabrication and expense and fuss wouldn't really justify the "slide."

So here's what my skid looked like a few months back:
    skid scrapes 2.jpg
A little hard to tell because of the camera fisheye but the transmission skid is slightly deformed towards the rear passenger side of it. As far as actual skid damage it's mostly kissing that front breakover which peens the metal and basically stakes the oil door into place.

My biggest gripe with the RCI skid is it has the diff tumor instead of a clearance cut slot for the edge of the diff casing. Without a big lift I need all the clearance I can get.

@Nitori That doesn't sound like a bad idea even for an experimental purposes. Depending on the thickness you could use machine screws and countersink the heads?
