why not use the BPF hooks instead
they look the same and just came out with an additional driver side one to match their old passenger side one that has been out for a while

Question. I frequently see trucks rolling down the freeway with shackles in place. Why?

If you pay high $$$ for gear then you wanna show off your bling. Either that or you live remotely and people around you need recovery all the time.

So, really just to make folks think you off road with your pristine undercarriage.

Good point. In fact it would be quite entertaining to watch those folks try and use recovery gear. Just stand waaay back.

For the same reason people run shackles through their nipples.

I was behind a hummer yesterday with chromed shackles hanging on a chromed rear bumper. The closest that thing has ever been to being off road is a garage.

I was in my CJ with top and doors off. I should have offered to take them off-roading but with the widows up and music so loud I needed ear plugs they couldn’t hear.

Last winter I stopped to help a fellow stuck in the snow. A gentleman with a very lifted F250 said he'd pull him out. That's when I saw him hook up a ratchet strap to his hitch. Not even a big ratchet strap, one of those 1" deals you'd use for holding some lumber in the back. I told another guy we should step back for the break. Sure enough, it broke immediately. Go figure. (Just a line snap, no flying hardware)

I ended up using my ARB strap and shackles to pull him out.

    "Oh! He came prepared!"

    Yes.

I’m really just starting off road, and this thread lead me to invest in the ARB front recovery point for my ‘17 Tacoma TRD 4x4 sport. Not really serious enough to go with a full aftermarket front bumper. But … this is my problem. I’ve already installed King front suspension. The bracket holding the external reservoir is right where the ARB recovery unit wants to bolt on. I made a cardboard template of the ARB, allowing for about a quarter inch clearance. The photo shows what I’m going to have to cut away from the King bracket. King bracket is supported only from the bottom. Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m reluctant to just cut away the King bracket and send it. I don’t see an easy way to relocate the King reservoir, or add an upper point of support to the bracket. Has anyone solved this issue? Bonus question, if I did go with a full aftermarket bumper would I run into this same problem? Thanks.

I ran into the exact same thing with my Elka setup which has a very similar design for the reservoir mount. The most expensive solution would be full bumper replacement which could also get you into a winch. That keeps you from messing with the King bracket but the price is steep. Mid range solution would be a smaller partial bumper like the CBI covert series which may or may not include a winch as well. Costs less and less alteration to your truck but again, King stays the same on it's bracket. I ended up going that route with an aftermarket "Stump" bumper from Greenlane Offroad (Canadian company) and a Warn 10s winch. The ARB was sort of redundant and I removed it after my bumper got added but at one point I was looking at welding two studs onto the exposed side of the ARB bracket and then fabricating a modified version of the remote reservoir mount that could bolt onto the ARB bracket. Drilling holes in the ARB would weaken it but welding on some studs would just be more metal. It would cost some effort and money to fabricate the custom aspects of it and paint the ARB add ons, but it's way cheaper than a bumper and a winch. It really depends how much you expect your truck to be able to do, whether you offroad solo without another vehicle, etc. If there are other options others can think of, please add on.
