I thought Toyota was going to tell me to kick rocks

But they didn’t. I am getting a new hood.

It doesn’t help I have ocd. I did not notice this when I bought my 2023 Taco but when I did notice it I went to my dealer and showed them

One week later a hood is on the way

I still have faith in Toyota and appreciate them replacing the hood.

Anyway just sharing. Pics attached - passenger side has the unacceptable gap. Drivers side was ok

Hard to tell from the picture , almost looks like the leading edge of the fender is tweaked more than the hood , but I’m sure the tech at the store checked it out . Pics can be deceiving . I’m sure it’ll be sorted out , good luck with the new ride !

 

That's a new one. I might not have noticed that either. I got a new hood for rust in that area. If people haven't rust proofed that area, I highly suggest doing so.

The hood just seems to be stamped without enough metal on that edge and when bent it just made it worse

Exactly what I thought Like they folded it short or at the wrong angle. Weird.

 

I would imagine that is a robot stamped template with little to no human interaction involved. So it seems odd.

 

Yeah you are right but there is a QA check near the end of the line by hand and gap tool to check these things - I’m Guessing someone gundecked that lol

 

Let’s see how well they match the paint. Keep us posted.

 

It’s coming painted from Toyota. Will do

 

They’re painting it at the factory? Taking one off the line ? They don’t come prepainted if parts is ordering one. Glad they covered it that was a no brainer.

 

I’ll ask again but since truck still only has 479 miles on it he told me they were sending a factory painted hood. So guess we will see

wish I could have my paint guy do it. He’s freakn amazing.

 

That's pretty servere. I've seen similar fitment in the exact same spot on about half of the late model Tacomas Ive looked at. Don't be surprised if your new hood isn't perfect; I do hope it's perfect though.

 

Yeah. Id confirm. I’ve never heard of the factory pulling an already painted hood or painting one and shipping it to the dealer. Then they’d have to be super careful of wrapping it and boxing it and possible damage during shipping. I could see it if you were in the factory town and it could simply be driven to the dealer but not if it needs to be shipped. I could be wrong but it would be unusual. Again keep us posted.

It does not come painted, there are probably a half dozen variants of that color.

 

Yeah. That’s why asked op. He stated the dealer said they were getting a factory painted hood.

Was just about to say this. Personally, I'd rather have the poorly formed hood with perfectly matched paint than a perfectly formed hood and mismatched paint. That would drive me nuts.
