Hello all I am new to Tacoma World. I have placed a deposit on a dealer allocated 2023 DCSB in Barcelona Red. I had inquired with my salesman about the cost of the TRD lift to be installed before I receive the truck. They quoted an additional $4200 which I think (and from reading on here) is a bit excessive. The dealer claims there is a 15 hour install time due to "calibrations" however the Toyota press release claims 4-5 hours install time. I sent the link to the salesman to question their 15 hours, no response as of yet.

So I guess my question is people who have went this route what was the install time labor, and has anyone had any luck negotiating based on the press release? If the dealer does not want to work with me on it, I will just hold off and go a different route in the near future.

Welcome to TW and congrats on the new red truck!

That does sound a bit excessive. I'd get them to itemize all of the work and provide justification. Calibrate what, and why? There are a lot of electronics that they may feel could be affected by the lift, but if Toyota doesn't say they need to be done, they are taking you for a ride. Many folks do minor lifts with no calibrations needed. Sounds like the salesman may be trying to up his commission.

If it seems funky, opt out. Check with local offroad shops and see what they would charge for a minor lift.

Ya, you'd be better off having someone else install 5100 Bilsteins for half that price.

That’s way out of parts and labor price range. They don’t need to calibrate anything because it comes with the calibrated radar. Average price is about 2000 to 2500. You can buy it online and install it on your own but for that price, everyone just gets something better like the bilsteins.
I would question even buying the truck from that salesperson just based on what he said about the lift. It seems like there’s questionable business practices there.

I paid $1,100 for the kit and $750 for dealer install in DFW. They do have to do some calibration when they install the new grille and sensor FYI. With that said, mine didn’t take them anywhere near 15 hours…more like half a day.

If OEM LED Headlights are $475 with dealer install, how the heck can the dealership justify a TRD Lift for $4200?

I paid roughly $640 each headlight for mine...after the fact! (I cried already but I'm good now)

My plan is to go with a TRD Lift which costs about $1750 + about $1200 labor. The cost you're being quoted is additional $1250 from what I described.

I am pretty mechanically inclined, I will probably just order a different setup and install myself. The one appealing thing is the lift is covered under warranty when it comes from Toyota, but not worth it for the price.

The truck itself was what I feel a pretty decent deal about $450 below MSRP bought the wife's 4runner from the same dealer/salesman 2 years ago. Truck market is still a little chaotic in Texas at the moment or at least for Toyota.

Not even close to worth it for the price. Buy some 5100s and rear blocks and do it yourself for a couple hundred bucks. A couple hours later. Done.

That came with a lifetime supply of K-Y correct? For the lift I mean.

You can do better parts and another installer and still save lots o bucks.

Just out of curiosity I called my local dealer and asked how much to install the TRD kit on my DCLB and was quoted $2590. As many have said already go with 5100”s and save a bunch of money.

Yup. Mine was a total of $2k. Original quote was $4,200. I showed up with the parts when I picked up my truck and had worked out a deal with service to install outside of the sale of my truck.

These install prices are crazy. Dealer installed my trd pro suspension front/back, and alignment for $365.00 now granted that was in 2018, but shouldn't have gone up that much since then. I know this kit includes grill, but that's an hour at most.

It's just like a truck deal , dealers are all over the place with the price, mine was 1,961 OTD. I called around got prices then spoke to the service manager at my dealership, he matched the lowest deal that I got. Got there at 8 left at 1130. No way it takes 15 hours! Screen shot the Toyota press release allotted time and negotiate the price. 15 hours is absurd! On a good note I love the slight lift of the truck and the grille that comes with the kit. The truck drives great.

It should be criminal for them to charge you that much. You could get Bilsteins for under $1,000 and have a local shop install them for probably under $500 in labor at most.

Or do what some of us have done if you want to use a Toyota branded part… Buy the shocks only from BAM and install yourself (or have another shop install). Then do yourself a favor and do an AAL instead of the block and then do whatever you want with the thousands you saved!

a couple weeks ago i called my local dealer and they quoted a price of $3200 and said changing the needle bearing/clamshell bushing was included. that's still too much for my liking.
