    Yes...another oil thread...

Get our popcorn out and splash guards ponchos on...

So I have a 21-OR getting close to 25k on the ODO.

When I hit 25 or 30k, I plan on changing fluids on all the gear boxes.

I had already done this at ~15k to get the 'break in' junk out.
At this time, instead of using 75w in the T-case, I ran XXw-90.
After this, the 'shift slop' I can feel when shifting from P-D, R-D, N-D, D-N, ect, felt nearly cut in half.

For this next round, I am debating on running 75w-110 in the T-case.

Anyone else have experience on this?

Only problems I read about are people having issues with 4wd shifting in SUB-zero temps. Since I live in South Texas, I do not see this being an issue and currently have not noticed any change in 4wd shifting since the switch to 90.

    Thanks

Sure, why not - don't really see why Toyota bothers having engineers anyway - just ask the 19 year old at AutoZone for a recommendation. :burp:

I am curious how the oil viscosity in the t-case effected the 'shift slop' of the transmission? am i misunderstanding?

you should use Redline MT-LV you aren't going to use OEM fluid or some other 75w GL-4 oil.

Are you sure you want to equate automobile engineers as experts? LOL

Engineers make suggestions. Accountants make decisions.
Experts fix the mistakes made by the engineers and accountants.

OP I wouldn’t go with anything more viscous than 90 weight.
But I’m probably not the one you should take advice from.
I currently hold the trophy for making the stupidest statement on TW. :D

Question.... You have a job that pays you $2K a week, but it costs you $2.1K/wk to do that job. Does it take an accountant to determine you quitting that job? Does that take an engineer to advise you? Does it take an expert to make that decision? No. It's just common sense. Same in big global companies too. Make money? Good. Lose money? Bad.
