So I bought my Tacoma 2021 sr used about a year ago and they already came with fog lights. I wanted to add a switch but I noticed that the fog lights were wired into my headlights, I know from previous threads, this isn’t good. I also saw that my truck is pre wired for fog lights so it didn’t make sense why the previous owner just didn’t wire them that way. Should I take it to someone to remove the current fog lights, repair the wires for the headlines and then install the new ones properly with a switch? Any help would be extremely grateful. Thank you!

There is nothing wrong with the way the factory wires fog lights since they can only come on with the low beam headlights. Having them on with the high beams is the problem.

As for your truck and the current fog lights, without looking at the wiring, it's hard to say if you should remove it. I will offer that utilizing the factory fog wiring, relay and switch will be a much more elegant and trouble-free solution.

If it were my new truck I would pull that janky wiring out and do it properly.
I hope they didn't power the fogs from that splice.

Had some time today and discovered it was wired up like this . I have cut the fog light wire and wrapped the headlight wire with electric tape. Once I get money, I will pay someone to professionally instal them and solder the headlight wire to be more secure.

You could try de-pinning that connector and sliding on some heat shrink tubing over each wire to re-insulate them.
