A little more progress on the cage.

In my typical fashion, I found myself diving off of the deep end and doing more bracing than initially planned for. I have plans for the truck in the future that would have involved adding more bracing anyways. So as they say, when in Rome….

6 tubes left to finish up which should be this week, then a ton of first and second pass welds, tabbing in the seats and a full assembly of the truck to add mounts and whatnot where they are needed.

I’ve done cage work in the past. But nothing on this level. It’s been incredibly humbling.

As always, thanks for following along!

Damn, wonder how much weight all that tubing added. $5 says next winter you’re LS swapping this beauty

Not as much as you would think honestly. Factory seats are pretty heavy and factoring everything else gone, 150lbs maybe?

What material type and size did you go with? Are you gonna do any painting?

Also don't be like me, cover your windows if you do any grinding in the vicinity. You'd be surprised what just a bit of hit grit does to tempered glass. My rear windshield is pock marked from cutting off the OEM brackets. Didn't even think about it.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Hells yeah! This has been a killer build to read thru. Thank you for sharing your skills and vision.

@906taco what did you do to get rid of all the insulation stuff stuck to the floor of the Tacoma? I've been chipping away but it's leaving a tonne of nasty stuff stuck to the floor.

Heat gun to soften it up good. Then get any remaining goop good and wet with mineral spirits and after a little soak it comes right up

I haven’t tried it but I’ve seen that dry ice works really well too. Plenty of videos on YouTube about it.

I've seen dry ice and alcohol make quick work of it.

Dry ice does work, but imo takes longer. The wife had my entire cab stripped and spotless in like 3 hours one night with a heat gun and mineral spirits. And I think she was milkin it.

Sounds good! I got it all chipped up today without heat which I probably should have thought of, but I'll get the remnants off with those suggestions! Thanks!

I had heard that, but I couldn't be bothered enough to try and find dry ice locally

Used to be able to get it everywhere. I remember getting it at walmart to make dry ice bombs.

Thank you, someone else who is cultured enough to know what a dry ice bomb is.
