    Why would you think reducing the overall gearing would help? This isn't what low range is used for. In fact, you'd have been better off in 4HI. Tires are more likely to spin in low range. Too much torque for the amount of traction.

    I'd have to see pics to decide about the hitch damage. If it's just cosmetic I'd live with it personally. But if the steel is bent, it could be weakened. I assume you're talking about where the emergency chains are attached.

    It’s not powder coated, just painted black. Take a hammer, bend it back, clean it, paint it and call it a day.

    So you are saying they use safety chain loops to yank you out?

    Or could have hung up on the way in or out of the ditch. I used to hog hunt a buddy’s property, and that damn thing always bounced off the drainage ditch on the way in and out, as I was forced to cross perfectly straight.

    Why would you let yank you out by hooking to safety chain loops in the first place. I'm sure you where right there. It your own fault, for letting them do that. Suck it up and move on. Your lesson was learned.
