Dave, I just installed the wiring harness on my '22 SR to convert to LED headlights. They work fantastic, thank you so much. You are a real pro!

Credit to @Puppypunter as well, especially for all things SR related. Without him I would be guessing.

Hey Dave, I just purchased the harness for my 2019 TRD off-road. I have a question about shipping. Do you ship with USPS? If so, my mailing address is different from my home address and I’ll need to go about getting that corrected.

    Thanks

    Looking for some advice….
I’ve had new OEM Pro LED headlights installed with this harness for several months now. Love it.

Today, I noticed that my DRL is not coming on (when the stalk is NOT set to DRL OFF, this is how I regularly drive).
When I switch it to driving lights, the DRL is extremely dim.
When I switch to headlights ON, the DRL is dim as expected.

I’be checked connections, all seem good.

For reference, and I don’t know how it could be related, but I just had new tires put on the truck by an independent shop. I don’t see how that could have affected anything.

    Any help appreciated.

The TRD harness is different. Do you have a 2018 OffRoad or an SR as well?
First, ensure you have ignition on and parking brake dropped (you can re-set it after you drop it)
Next, double-check that DRL is enabled in the head unit settings.
Next, multi-meter the green wire on either (preferably both) side and see if it gets +12v.
If signal is there, you're troubleshooting the headlights. If signal is not present, you're troubleshooting the truck and/or harness.

If it's both sides, most likely the parking brake or drl settings in the head unit. Those trip a lot of people up.

I just checked again after thinking this through….I’m a yahoo. The difference was the parking brake. I had it on when turning over the truck. When the brake was off and truck turned on, it was a non-issue. The DRL’s were bright with expected behavior.

I did not know this about the parking brake, the truck is more smarter than me! Thank you @daveeasa for your quick response, this time it was purely user error on my part.

I assume the Trail Edition just uses the same as the SR5 and will work in a 2023 model year as well. Thanks in advance.

Yes, Trail is SR5 as far as I’m aware.

    Hi, Dave,

I recently installed your harnesses with the LED OEM lights on a 2016 TRD OR. They work great! But I noticed the other day one side has the high beam on when the lo beams are supposed to be activated. Any thoughts?

    Thank you.

Wires are color coded and labeled. You connected high beam to low beam. Swap them and match colors. Note that for low beams the color of the stripe matches a solid color on the OEM side. That’s the only difference and it’s because there are two Oem dark blue colors on the passenger side so I do low beams as white w color matched stripe.

    Hi Dave:

New to Tacoma world and just purchased a new 2023 Trail. Looking to upgrade to LED lights. Just to confirm I order the SR5 conversion kit (200$) once it is back in stock? Also out of curiosity which of the OEM LED headlights would you recommend getting that is the most seamless conversion to not over complicate things. Thanks in advance and can't thank you enough for all your work!

They are the same, just cosmetic differences. Pick what you hate more, chrome (go pro) or faux pro badging on a non pro truck (then go non-pro).

Perfect thanks Dave and will be going non-pro just to keep the trail uniqueness. I'll follow the other thread to keep a look out on the SR5 conversion kit and will be getting one when back in stock.

    Dave,

Just tried installing the harness but ran into some speedbumps on my 2023 TRD OffRoad

Passenger side installed fine and is working perfect.

The DRL/low/high don't seem to be right... the two that have H9 style plugs will not click in to my factory wiring. Do you have any pics of which connects to which by factory wiring colors? The colors on your harness don't quite seem to match mine.

White w black stripe is ground on both the truck and my harness.
Solid color (white for Driver, yellow for passenger) is high beam. Since ground is on the high beam that should match up 100%. The H9 males don't snap in clean, it's not an OEM connector b/c OEM is to connect female to bulb, there is no OEM male connector.
Low beam is the h9 connector with only one wire pinned. I do them white with a stripe matching the solid color wire on the truck side. That is done to differentiate the two dark blue wires on the passenger side and ensure I don't mistake them and wire it up wrong. I may be switching over to just doing it the hard way given how this one specific topic seems to add confusion.
I also have labels on each wire.

    Driver:
Ground -- white w black stripe
High -- solid white no stripes
Low -- Red (truck) or white w red stripe (harness)

    Passenger:
Ground -- white w black stripe
High -- Solid yellow no stripes
Low -- Blue (truck) or white w blue stripe (harness)

Also the tab lines up with the curves of the OEM females.

With gentle pressure you can push the male terminals of the h9 male connector towards proper alignment if they are trending inward or outward. Be careful with this, use caution so you don't snap them off and put yourself in need of repair.

I think having 3 whites (2 w stripes) on the driver side is problematic. I wanted symmetry but I plan to moving to solid red there instead of white w red.
For the passenger side, I'll experiment with solid blue and see how many times I pin it wrong. It just makes life harder when you have to think about which dark blue is low beam and which is parking light. There is a real tendency to mix them up on the 6 position MX-150 connector side vs always stuffing color X into slot Y.
