Not plugging in. Such a minor thing so much enjoyed. I love the wireless CarPlay.

Surprised there is a sound quality hit, I would have assumed it's all digital via carplay anyway, but you found it noticeable?

I understand that aspect, but is it really CarPlay without the interface?

You do get the interface, it still does screen projection.

    REALLY. Hmm.

So, just to confirm my understanding, instead of looking like this:

    You get this, right?

You can listen to the radio (FM/Sirius) through the Entune Interface and still have the Apple CarPlay up for everything else. Just set the station then click the home button and choose Apple CarPlay.

Yes, it is just like normal CarPlay/AA without having to physically plug in. It requires your phone to support wireless CarPlay/AA. Some AA wireless adapters are really carplay on the car side of the connection. I've had good luck with the Motorola MA1 for my Android Auto.

OK, I think that's where my confusion is coming from. This is for head units with factory CarPlay only, per the Amazon listings. It does not add CarPlay where it did not already exist.

Correct. The dongle just allows you to use CarPlay wirelessly instead of having a cord plugged in to your phone.

chiming in on this- I definitely noticed sound quality taking a hit. I was really surprised by this as it really doesn’t make much sense to me why this is happening.

It arrived today. I installed it tonight before leaving for work so I don't have much use with it so far but it connects in less time than it took my phone to connect via cable. Had it do some Siri commands and all worked very well. Made one phone call and had no issues. It connected very quickly after a stop at the store. No complaints so far.

It has worked well for the past 6 days that I've had it. I don't notice much of a sound quality difference, if any. I do find it lags slightly when I skip to the next song with the steering wheel controls at times. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it.

I was SO glad when I got my Taco and it was wired. Wife had an X3 for about a year, no cable at all. The raging scream-fests that we regularly had because a) I'm a computer geek by profession and b) I couldn't make her phone and BMW talk reliably.
For the BMW, you had to use their internal wi-fi after the BT connection. Well, it wasn't very good. So a map display just didn't get enough info, and songs skipped all the time. Phone calls dropped about 50% of the time.
As long as I can, I will always use a wire for CarPlay.

I'm currently using the CarlinKit 3.0. A couple of days ago I checked and found a new software update. After it was complete I looked at the settings and found two surprises.

    1. I've never noticed before but it shows a GPS location on/off setting. I'm not giving that data to anyone so it's now turned off and so far everything still works as before.

    2. Also found a media delay setting. While watching a video there is an annoying delay between the audio and the person talking. The default setting for me was 1000MS. I was able to get it down to 300MS which helps a lot. Curious if anyone is able to get a lower delay number to work.

Edit: It's only been a few days but I've yet to have the dongle not connect to the phone. Typically I have to reset the connector every 5 - 6 times to get the connection to happen.

I'm curious on the call quality options - would someone not want clear calls? :boink:

I’m not so sure about the value of Apple Car Play, so going wireless is not my goal. Last week I was out of cellphone coverage and Apple Car Play was unable to give directions. The built-in navigation worked fine and got me back to civilization.

I haven't done any updates on our CarLink3.0 since install more than a couple months ago.

We used it while in Canada headed to Toronto in early April...worked fine once we figured out we had to activate international roaming on our Mint Mobile account.
