I'm shopping tunes and so far OTT sounds like the winner.
I'm confused on one thing though - does the ECT button change to a a different tune or just adjust the throttle response?

Our standard production files have different throttle settings and revised transmission shift scheduling that had a sport/tow emphasis. While the engine tuning remains the same, the truck will definitely have a different personality with the ECT on.

That’s just our standard files. We’re happy to configure things to your liking, just let us know what you want and we’ll make it happen!

I would figure the ECT is a function all it's own.

With the OTT Tune...it get's enhanced.

I'm not knowing the particulars but my wife's 2017 Elantra has a "Sport Mode" which changes the function of the transmission.

Since OTT doesn't interfere with the Original Set-up of the ECU's OEM processes, it's just an enhancer.

I could be wrong but what do I know? lol

So does the ECT retain it's factory functionality but it's enhanced by the tune? Or does OTT change what the ECT button does? I'm still not clear on this, sorry.

What is the Toyota Tacoma ECT PWR Button?
ECT is an acronym for "Electronically Controlled Transmission". When pressed, the ECT button will adjust shift points so you can reach higher RPM levels before shifting into the next gear. This is accomplished through a separate set of maps that are used when the ECT button is depressed, changing the calibration of a system of hydraulics that operate clutches and bands within the transmission that are controlled by an electronic solenoid. When in operation, the ECT PWR feature will provide a greater degree of control over your speed and enhance control.

When Should You Use the Toyota Tacoma ECT PWR Button?
It is best used when you need an extra burst of power while towing, the ECT button functions much like the Toyota Tundra Tow/Haul Mode. A few more driving situations where the ECT will come in handy include merging with freeway traffic, passing vehicles on the highway or climbing steep grades. It is important to note that extended use of power mode will result in lower fuel-economy ratings.

We don't change the ECT button's functionality, we further enhance the effect of the system over what Toyota spec'd.

Our production files alter the throttle mapping over the standard non-ECT throttle settings which the OEM calibration does not do. We also have completely remapped shift points to put the 3.5's rev happy powerband to use. The OEM calibration as mentioned does this as well. We just go a little further with it. When using ECT in a OTT tune, you'll find the ECT button functions very much like a traditional "Sport" mode button on a modern vehicle. Same "tune", different personality.

Hope that clears some things up.

Thanks. I know what the factory ECT does, I was just fuzzy on how OTT modified it.
Looking forward to getting it done in a couple weeks.

One of the many great things Matt at OV/VF did for everyone was figuring out the random shifting issue of the stock transmission and making it linear.

I know in the early days his tuning was a life saver for many. No doubt it helped ownership/retention for many!

But just so there is no confusion, OTT uses proprietary transmission tuning that is not available anywhere else.

Had my Tacoma tuned this week by John Brewer with Kelly Tuning LLC here in Albuquerque, NM. Went with the Lite/Mild setting and loving it so far! The truck is so much more responsive to pedal input. As others have said, this is the way it should have come from the factory. John was very knowledgeable, great to work with, and made the whole process extremely painless. Thanks John and OTT!

I drove out to Albuquerque and got my truck OTT tuned by John Brewer today! By far the best money I’ve spent on my truck since I’ve had it. I made the 3.5 hr drive to ABQ and I was literally pissed off at the truck because of its ridiculous shifting the entire way there.. but I drove back home with a smile on my face the whole way! I went with the Medium/Spicy after testing this one and the Mild/Medium. The truck is finally fun to drive and feels like it should’ve felt from factory.. John is a great, outgoing, guy and walked me through the whole process and we also chit chatted for quite a while. Anyone in NM, I highly recommend you get in touch with him!

Before the tune I was considering regearing because of all the added weight on my truck, but after the drive home I can say that I will not be regearing.

The only downside to the whole experience was that John’s truck was spotless, so it made mine look terrible

Lolz, it just hides the dirt good. Pleasure to tune you and so glad you enjoyed your ride back home. This product is amazing and easy to see why it’s the best in the business.

Thanks bud! The only bad thing about this tune was that Chris has a manual transmission and when we went for a test drive it really made me reconsider getting an automatic. Glad you are happy with OTT, such a great product and the best mod you can do!

Very true, but its actually the factory that will void your Warranty, not the dealership. It's up to the Dealership to decide if they want to work on your car or not. The customer is free to take it somewhere else for work. It's not a matter of the customer convincing the Dealership that an aftermarket part contributed to a failure. It's a matter of can the Dealership convince the Factory that an aftermarket part did not contribute to a failure, and get reimbursed for working on said car. Depending on the customer's relationship with the Dealership, they'll decide if they want to stick their neck out for you.

Met up with Alex, @A_Tacoma01 this morning and he tuned my 2019 4dr TRD OR for me. I went with the mild/ medium throttle response. On the test drive, as well as the 25 mile drive back, I was truly amazed at the difference. It’s hard to believe that Toyota let these trucks leave the factory with the tune they have. I know it’s early for a comprehensive review, but initial thoughts are it’s the best money I’ve ever spent on this truck. Alex is a great guy to deal with. Anyone in the D/FW Metroplex should hit him up.
