I have a 2011 taco 4wd. I want to upgrade to a new radio with a screen cd player and apple car play. The problem is the new systems I see in store ha very small control butons unlike my existing system (I also have controls in the steering wheel). Can I get a salvage radio from a newer model that will give me the features I want with the larger controls I need Or is there a after market unit that would meet these parameters? Any sugestions would help

I have sausages for fingers. Still I can manage to operate my aftermarket unit. I did get the adapter for steering wheel controls but I don’t use them much.

Much of your decision on which to get is gonna be based on what’s in stock. Browse through crutchfield to help you decide. I went with one of the pioneer avh nex models. Added a backup camera. The biggest improvement was swapping the speakers.

Have seen posts were guys took newer radios and installed them and they were just plug and play with the steering wheel controls that worked. But you basically have to replace the radio surround as starting in 2012 the radio went to a screen type then in 2014-15 the radio increased in size and the surrounding changed in size. Some 3 gen radio’s work but the radio face changed in size and the controls were changed to touch screen. Gen 3 you have to basically custom cut out the surrounding to make the radio fit, 2020 and up they changed the radio plug in so you would need a custom harness to make it work. Unless you can find one cheap in a wrecking yard plus a surround to fit your taco would go with an aftermarket one, less hassle and more features then the OEM one.

Lot of radios in there that would match up with what you want but I see the install kits are not available. Check out the audio video form in here as I see a lot of guys are going with this Joying unit and it appears to come complete with everything you need to install it.

I'm replacing the stock (non-JBL, radio made by Delphi) with a single DIN Sony MEX-N5300BT radio from Crutchfield, with their kit, including their wiring service with the CRUC SWRTY-61S interface harness that comes with OEM connectors (plugged in and it plays!), including the Metra mount (less flimsy bracket mount for clock/hazard module). Happiness is better radio reception and having to turn down the volume knob by half on the factory speakers, so I can hardly wait for warmer weather to install the Infinity 6x9 speakers by Harman. Crutchfield's selection, service and support are great. (Including their Master Sheet instructions with detail on removing the door panels). Call an advisor with any questions.
