I have the resources through my dealership to buy Toyota parts at cost.. not bragging.Toyota is one of our Stores and my Store is far,far away from that brand, just tell my Parts dpt guy call Toyota and order whatever I need....Italian cars for me at my Store. Anyway I ordered a Toyota OEM bed extender today and curious as if the kit comes with the bed template to drill the mounting holes for the bracket?

Yeah it comes with the drill templates for both sides. Easy job. You will love it, I use mine all the time.

Thanks Buck for the info. I assumed that Toyota would Include those instructions. Because it is a dealer installed option, just was not shure.

Quick recommendation, swap the supplied brackets for the quick release ones sold by Amp (the company that makes the stock extender). They fit the same as OEM and are way better to work with.

Exactly as you described. Was nervous about drilling into my truck but it turned out great. Template was very easy to use..

Hey, well done brother! Like I said, a very useful addition. When not deployed, it makes a great grocery bag pookah with the tailgate up.. And I recently used mine deployed to tote some old furniture down to the Goodwill store. And if you need it gone for a bit, it pops right out. Very Zen!

The only thing I would suggest adding to the bed extender is one of those surfboard pad/clamps that are designed for pickup truck tailgates.

    They look like this [IMG]
    And cost less than $50.

I use it all the time to haul my surf and paddle boards, but it also is really useful for hauling lumber home for projects, etc.

I leave the pad strapped to the bed extender all the time.

    Same question...

Can you remove the bed extender easy so you can put/roll in larger stuff?

As in a few seconds, or do you need to remove bolts?

I’ve always wondered why they arc the shape so much. Is it so it clears the wheel arches? It seems to take away a good bit of usable space, whether stowed or deployed.

Tilt it a 55 degree angle and it slides right out.

Yep, the brackets are designed to allow the extender to slide right out when it is not needed. Takes 2 seconds on a bad day. And putting it back is equally as quick and easy.
