Outlet Wiring

Need some help/advice on wiring a new 12v socket to the back seat on my 2019 TRD OR. I’ve decided to place it in the back of the center console. From most of my research that seems the best place to put it, my issue lies in how to wire it. I want this outlet to be off when the truck is off, so it was recommended to me by a friend just to do a fuse tap and call it a day. Is that really the best course of action for this? Mainly will be using this outlet to charge a power bank that in turn charges my computer and camera equipment for work, so it will need at least an 8 amp draw. Just want to make sure I’m not missing something key here and that this plan is kosher. Thanks in advance y’all!

 

Wire tap is probably easiest for that amount of load. If any more will be needed I’d go the extra mile and use the fuse tap to power an ignition switched relay and hardwire the charger power from the battery.

 

If you're just putting in another 12v cigarette lighter/power socket, just piggyback off of the other one up front. It's just 2 wires. You don't need to worry about upgrading the OEM fuse unless you're running inverters on both or some crazy nonsense.

Can pretty much just piggyback off of anything that is on accessory power. Just be sure to fuse / breaker anything serious like amps, inverters, etc.

You definitely need the 400w anytime if you want to do anything useful as it is only 3.3A at 115VAC.

From there, you can choose to use their outlet option or grab something off of Amazon. I got a 3in with A/C and USB A:

There is also a 2in version with USB C somewhere. The only challenge is figuring out the polarity and ground.

Note that the back of the console comes off very easily. Pull up the center console. Then, just unfasten the two screws under the pad at the bottom of the box. The rear panel just pulls free.
