Hmm. And then grounded on the panel? Burned the adjacent ground wire? The electrician said that my wire insulation had burned because the wire was loose and it caused it to heat up, but that was from the breaker to the sub-panel and with aluminum wire. Aluminum expands and contracts more than coper, causing it to work itself loose over time without a very strong connection. I haven't spent a lot of time looking at panels, but it is interesting how mine the positive and negative go around different sides of the box whereas your overlap almost immediately (obviously due to the input location, but still).

Plug in their mobile charger to an outlet at the house, and drape the charger across the sidewalk. Considered poor etiquette of course. Many get free charging at work and just don't charge at home. Seattle is installing curb-side charging by request for those without off-street parking, at no cost to the requestor:

It is dented. Small, but visibly dented and viewable from the driver seat. I will never be able to un-see it.

The paint appears damaged too. I tried to wash it on the way home but car washes are closed with the recent below freezing temps. I spot cleaned it to evaluate. I’m pretty good at buffing out scratches, but IDK, it’s not light. Seems like one of those things that is going to be boarder-line to claim. Pretty annoyed by the series of events.

Wimpy is an interesting word choice, being the M3P has more power than anything Toyota offers much less compared to the Tesla S. I’ve still got my 1st Gen Taco for the truck side. I’ll give you a ride next time you are up here and try not to scare you.

I heated the garage overnight to a nice 65 degrees F and attempted to buff the damage out/down this morning. It’s not gonna happen. This is definitely a paint repair. Sigh. I’ll take it by the body shop I used for repairs on the Gladiator (with the crunched bedside and dented hood) next week for an estimate. Their work was impressive and reasonably priced.

If you look at the upper left of the burned panel photo that's daylight you see where the heat burned through exterior wall from the exterior mounted utility company electrical meter. So ... idk ...

To get technical there is no positive/negative in an alternating current system. An AC system creates inductance and it's bad juju to route each hot phase of wiring separate from the others, you want everything routed as a bundle. Inductance in that situation will create excessive heat and potentially burn. The full story is a long discussion.

I've toyed with the idea of installing an underground electrical box curbside with a locked lid housing a charging cord from the house ... TBD

Can you try touch up paint? Tesla sells it.

I'm not paint penning a new car of this caliber, plus the minor dent. It's a non-starter on such a prominent high visibility surface on a new car. I'm way to OCD for anything short of absolute perfection.

The garage isn't quite as fancy as it might sound. When I bought my place I took advantage of the federal tax credits at the time and installed heavily insulated doors, because I spend a lot of time in the garage. The garage power was on one 20A circuit. The largely unused basement on the other side of the garage wall is on its own 20A circuit. So I naturally tapped the basement circuit and pulled an additional 20A outlet into the garage, giving me two 20A circuits in the garage, which was a fantastic addition.

To heat the garage I use Delonghi "Dragon" heaters. They've since dropped the dragon name, but no other radiator heater produces anywhere near the output of these units. Significantly larger surface area than competitors radiators. If you hold your hand over these when fully heated, it feels like hey have fans blowing hot air as there is massive convection airflow coming out the top due to the enclosed high surface area design. These heaters are absolutely incredible, I've not found any electric heater that is remotely as effective. They do take several minutes to heat up, they are not instant on like a resistance coil heater, but they are far more effective than any resistance coil heater.

Shared in another model 3 group. 85mph crash and roll after a truck lost a piece of equipment off the back on the highway, driver swerved hit a drainage ditch flipped and rolled. The driver had to be cut out of the wreckage. He survived with a few broken ribs and a pelvis injury and shared the photos.

Looking at the impact to the B-pillar, the structural battery pack was no doubt a literal life saver.

I am a complete data junkie. I always want all the raw measured data, it is far better than any anecdotal opinion. Admittedly I obsess over data way too much (fault of an engineer), but. Just look how cool this is!

Here is my Tesla app charge data for the last 31 days. What is interesting is the wall charger was installed on the 16th, at which point you can see I go from nearly daily charging on 110v to much longer breaks between charging as I am able to comfortably run the battery lower and very rapidly recharge it in a matter of a few hours with the wall charger, allowing less frequent charging. I was out of town ~30 days ago with the Tacoma hence the no charge data at the beginning of the chart.
    IMG_0962.jpg

For most users this data is plenty.

But. What if you had access to ALL the raw data? Enter the Wall Monitor app that links to the Wall Charger and provides the raw data.

    IMG_0965.jpg

    IMG_0964.jpg

Way easier to monitor the wall charger than using the IP address for access as well. The app provides ridiculous amounts of data, though admittedly most won't find it useful. Live data charts cost a one time $9 purchase price. Raw charger data also shows the charger pulls more than the Tesla app specifies. I also like that you can export the data to a .csv file. You can also check the firmware version, version adoption rates, release notes and more. It makes many features and raw data easily accessible, that otherwise would be very limited by going to a specific IP address to access the charger for only the most basic info.

If should be noted when setting up in the Wall Monitor app, it will ask for the local IP. This is not the wifi IP used in setup, but the IP assigned on your local network. You should look for the wall charger in your router connections to find the IP address for the app.

I think my next winter wheels will be the OEM 2020 M3 Performance stiletto wheels, in gunmetal. The wheels were produced for only 1 year, Oct 2019 to Sept 20. Lots of copycats powder coating the silver versions. Slightly lighter at 28.75lbs vs 32lbs. OEM part number: OW96319B. In those years they were offered as staggered fitment, +35 front and +40 rear offsets. I'd opt for +40 front and rear.

I just picked up a set of TSportline TST wheels to run with our summer tires. These OEM wheels are slick with the lug nut covers, I’m searching my best recourse for black lug nuts or possibly going another route with silicone caps.

I went with the black titanium lugs from unplugged performance. I wasn’t sure at first if I’d want silicone caps to hide the exposed lug, but it is really barely noticeable, especially from standing height rather than squatting down to look at the lugs like this photo. Titanium only saves a little weight, regular black lugs would work fine as well.

“Holy Shit” were my exact words when I opened up this switchgear at work a while back. Luckily busing was not damaged so new breaker and feeders did the trick.

Took the Tesla on a week long trip with no dedicated charge point outside the first two nights at the parents place using a 12A plug. Hit up the supercharger in Entiat outside of Chelan to charge for 30% to 65% then top off with 110v at the parents place. Surprisingly the supercharger started preconditioning turned on about 1 hour 25 minutes before reaching the supercharger. it later switched off and switched on again closer to the supercharger destination.

    5701B7ED-FE21-430D-9477-FB07B1D0A141.jpg

I can of course hit up the supercharger leaving town, but my goal will be to use all the free chargers on ChargePoint to leave with a full 90% charge on the way out for a trip back over the pass without supercharging.

Free charging at the vacation condo. Only 12A 110v but gets the job done.

Came back home across the passes on Sunday, left with the car at 88% and made it home with 28%. Always fun to go down the passes and see the cars battery percentage pick up a few points from regen as you go. Saw a model Y towing a small RV trailer at the supercharger station as we drove by but did not stop. Relying primarily on free charging was all a non-issue on the trip, even with the car parked outside in the mid-30s for the week with Sentry mode left on.

Tesla also just recently pushed an update bringing back the option to vent windows from the app or auto close when locking the car. This feature existed before but was removed due to the NHSTA forcing a recall over the safety of the feature. I haven't seen anything from Tesla stating what the safety improvements changes were that allowed for the features return, but it will be nice to have going into summer.
