X2. My girlfriend and I are planning on doing this trip but are looking at doing a full 5-7 days. We want to have it so we can do our trip while your trail runs happening as that would be super fun for us. If you could lock up a start date we can plan out the rest. Otherwise we were looking at doing this trip before may.

Since we do more over-landing expedition stuff rather than only "wheeling", we will be more prepared for camping, but have a fully capable rig and recovery kit. We might also have a few friends coming up from nevada with us that drive tacoma's, titans', fj's, and a lone 4-runner trail edition!

Well, everyone plans trips a little differently. If you feel like it has to be done having one person decide everything, I respect your opinion. But that's not how I do it, I personally like getting the views and best dates from everyone since I am available to go anytime id rather have the group choose the best dates so that everyone can participate not just have everyone revolve around my schedule, then we can go from there. Hasn't failed me yet so I stick to it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

But that's beside the point, everyone's eager to hear more news on the planning so since I don't have a lot of time to access Tacoma World ( Its my day off which is why I had time today) we should probably leave the planning up to someone that can dedicate a little more time to the forums.

Jan seems like he would be able and willing to do it!?

I would just start an "Official 2011 Moab run" thread so that updates & times are on the first couple pages instead of the last 7-8.

Just curious..... I've been to moab 5or 6times to enjoy the town and arches national park of course. I've done a lot of the park and also drove down into the canyon (with a rented Toyota highlander 4x4) from dead horse state park near canyon lands. I love Utah! :D

But never figured out where all the trucks and jeeps go when they roll into town every year. Where are the spots y'all are talking about driving when this meet happens?

You can get an idea about the trails themselves at http://www.rr4w.com/trails They seem like they give a decent description.

As far as where the trails actually are, http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php is a pretty decent site, although all of Utah is just kinda grouped together, so match the trail name from the first site with this one.

As far as trails go, I vote for Fins as the first trail. I had a great time on it, and although it is actually on the easy side of things compared to what else is out there with no real body damage risk, I think I agree with everyone that says it is the classic Moab trail. It is rated a 5-7, depending on what you choose to do, which I think is just about right for a starter trail. When you go to Moab Offroad, this is really the type of trail you're expecting to see.

After Fins, then we can always decide how much more difficult we want to do. Personally, I'd like to retry Poison Spider, as we couldn't run it while down there due to ice on the obstacles. Hells Revenge, Cliffhanger, and Metalmasher are also very classic Moab trails, and rated about as high as I'd want to take a non-buggy.

That should give you some reading to day dream about though. ;)

There are SO many options, of all different skill levels/rig modification levels. Really too many to list.

Poison Spider Mesa is a quality example of a good trail for those looking for a little more challenge, as there are tough sections, but overall it is not really that difficult.

Don't let the difficulty of my example (Poison Spider Mesa) scare you away though; there are unpaved-driving options for everyone in the Moab area, whether you are driving a Prius, or a dedicated off road buggy with 40 inch+ tires.

Over the weekend, when the largest group of people are present, easier trails will probably be the main focus, with smaller groups of more advanced users breaking off to complete more challenging trails.

I plan on making a new Moab thread (complete with dates and a basic outline of 'the plan') before this weekend is over.

Damnit Greg, you beat me with your quick response!

Good info though, I'd really love your help with planning and such. (I will be in touch soon, I have to reinstall Live Messenger (just reformatted)).

    Still? Nice!!!

Mine is all gone:(; I've spent too much time driving up in the mountains and in all sorts of precip. since we were down there a month(ish) ago.

Hey OP. I know what you mean man. Work has got me way to busy too that I haven't even logged into TW for like 2 weeks. I don't even wanna look at a computer when I get home.

Hey Jan. Thanks for taking the initiative but at the moment my plans are up in the air right now since not much updates have taken place. I'll keep an eye out for updates.
