A cautionary tale...

 

I’m a classy photographer…

 

Sticking with the kestrel theme - this male caught himself a mouse and then got bullied off it by a female.

 

One upping on the Kestrel - I really like these little raptors.

After spending about an hour in the field as I was walking back this guy pops out of the brush and into the breeze -
Just enough breeze to allow it to hover but flapping its wings quite fast.
I pushed the ISO to 800 allowing me to shoot at a shutter speed of 2000 to freeze-frame these shots.

Saw several hawks but they were 3-football fields away and didn't come in my direction - glad to see them out as last year
they would criss-cross that field and sometimes fly right over me low and slow - I'll be ready this year if they do.

If I win the lottery I'm thinking the Z7ii with the 500pf
The Nikon 100-400 is a swell lens too.

 

Today was a duck day after work.

Every girls crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man...

 

Here’s a few pictures from a sunset motorcycle ride tonight. Looking back I didn’t catch that I adjust the aperture which didn’t help the low light performance, downside to taking pictures while wearing motorcycle gloves.

Saw a bunch elk, mule deer and antelope, a bobcat and a variety of different birds all within about 30 minutes.

 

Whilst checking on my owl friends I somehow spied this hummingbird in a nest - never seen this before...

 

Took this shot of my wife's car after I detailed it to get ready for trade in. Shot with a Sony A7 Mark II. I suck at photography

If I can make a suggestion, shooting bright colored subjects tends to fool the camera's metering into thinking the scene is brighter than it is. Exposure compensation helps. You can try anything from -3 to +3 (- makes it darker and + makes it brighter). If you set the EV or EC (what ever Sony calls it) by around +1, you'd be a lot better off. Even better might be to make an HDR to balance everything.

Baby fox. There were 3 of 'em but I couldn't get a decent family photo...
Conditions were trying - shooting at ISO 1600 I still had to drop shutter to 1/50 - handheld zoom -
Out of about 30 images this was the best.
