Hi there, first post. Ive always been a lurker here but the sheer amount of info on this subject isn't very clear to me. I have a 2016 Access Cab SR5 and I'm about to install the OEM bed light kit. I ultimately want to use a DPDT rocker to mimic the Cargo switch functions in a double cab and I want to clear a few things before I order certain parts. I only know a little of what I'm attempting to talk about here

I plan to use this CarQuest relay in the empty spot for the CargoLP relay. This should work fine just not OEM? https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...elay-83a1006/12453403-P?searchTerm=9008087026

Also, I do not have the IE1 pin#14 light green wire. I've read that I can tap the red light kit wire into the light green coming from the back of the relay holder thing? I've seen that "some tacos are missing a black EB1 wire" which has an effect on this somehow, I can not locate EB1 to check.

And for the rocker switch, Ill follow the diagrams found in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...g-double-cab-cargo-light-switch.436440/page-3. Viable with this switch? 7 pins vs the 8 shown in the thread but id think it can still work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099X49C3L?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

and order 90980-10800 and some of the connector pins in order to make the switch happen^^

any guidance would be appreciated. I feel like I've gathered most of what I need to know, but id like some confirmation before I start digging in. Thanks!

The OEM Cargo Lamp switch has independent illumination, the switch you plan to use does not.
Have you in fact located IE1?
Have you verified the spot where the relay is missing has the receiving terminals?
EB1 is in the engine bay.

I don’t know much about your year but my trd off-road has it and my trd sport didn’t. I did my sport with oem and the connections were there so it was all plug and play. Kit I think was 400$ give or take.

I’ve got terminals in the relay housing, and I believe this in the picture is IE1

I see you are missing the Lime Green to the Cargo lamp on IE1...

Do you see the clip that retains the relay block? You could press it with finger nail, or small flat screwdriver to release it, and check the wires behind in. It pulls out towards you.
    Battery negative terminal removed...before hand.

    Line Green wire is there...
One additional test, on IE1. Make note where the Lime Green wire would go, look at the opposite connector. There should be a pin on that location.

5th from the left on the bottom, yes! I’m impressed you really know your stuff. Any switch recommendations? I might try for something more OEM looking than that button I ordered. I chose it because it matches the blue button illumination

I don't have info on the terminal (pin) missing on the IE1 connector. You could use a Posi-tap from the rear of the connector to the added lamps.

or the mating connector of IE1. Lime Green is fused power from relay to lamps.

The mating connector? As in a female pin put into the connector? Is the lime green wire behind the relay fused at that point?

Thanks for all the help @caribe makaira. I've seen many of your comments in threads discussing 3rd gen bed lights, I gathered lots of info on the subject and then you yourself showed up on my thread to help me finish making sense of it all (I have no previous experience). All is now a waiting game; ive got the lights and connector coming from Toyotaparts, pins coming from Cross, and a custom DPDT from CH4x4. I take it the Advanced Auto relay is fine to use?

Yes. But most use the Denso Relay in order NOT to bring attention to any Toyota Tech doing any trouble shooting.
