    Your point is valid

I will add that the engine is used in the Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance AWD, well a hybridized version that make 366hp and 406ft-lbs . If Toyota has confidence in putting in there top of the line Lexus SUV that actually weighs more then the Tacoma (4750lbs vs 4650lbs of a trd pro) then I think it will be fine.

I hear Toyota decided today to scrap the turbo and just use the 4.0 from the 4Runner. The perfect combo of Power and reliability. :D

I seriously hope they have a PHEV at least. After driving a EV for more than a month now, I can’t go back to ICE for a daily driver. I can’t deal with having to go the gas station, or the unbearable noise from a fart can I4 or V6. The power per equivalent fuel cost is real deal breaker for me.

I heard they’re going to be running three Toyota Tacomas with spoon engines. On top of that, they’re going to Harry’s and getting three t66 turbos with NOS and Motec System exhaust.

IDK about this 4th gen interior. I'm thinking it's a base model, but is it SR or SR5. No manual either maybe TRD, and Pro trims will get a manual option.

That is good news, they do desperately need a proper transmission in the 4th gen. Hopefully they have learned their lesson from that 8 speed and the Tacoma 6 speed. I'd take a good Honda or Subaru CVT any day over the Camry's constantly shifting 8 speed auto.

My concern is that they drop something that won't be more enticing than the new GM twins. We are almost guaranteed to see the 2.4 which originated in a transverse crossover application, while GM took the 2.7 which was made for a full-size truck.

CVTs deliver the most vague disconnected driving experience. Can’t stand any of the Subaru CVT’s. No to mention their inherent reliability problems. I’d take the clunky 6 speed over any CVT.

Love it, that was my dream truck in high school and especially seeing it in that movie.

It’s odd that even though the Tacoma is one of Toyotas top sellers that it’s been getting hand me down engines from other vehicles.

I don't think an I4 Camry 8 speed is what you'd consider engaging to drive. A CVT doesn't belong in a truck, but for an economy commuter car that isn't sporty they are simply superior if executed correctly. I've driven some truly awful ones in rental Buicks and Nissans, but it can be done right and reliably

It was semi off topic, my main point was that Toyotas transmission tune has been hot garbage for the past several years and I hope they fix it

Interesting. Is pre-detonation less of an issue in thinner air?

I keep hearing about how the 2.4T will have much more torque than the 4.0 NA.

What is the theory behind a smaller displacement turbo having more torque than a larger displacement NA?
