My new used truck 2020 trd sport has 20,000 miles bought it with 13,000 miles.
I'm noticing when I get up to speed of 45-53 miles the engine hesitates almost like struggling but wants I pass the 53 mph speed it clears up.
Has anyone had this issue with there Taco.
    It just doesn't seem right.
Changes gear ok but wants I get up that speed it seems like a struggle.
    God I hope

Yeah, I experienced this with my truck until I got it tuned and now it drives like a different vehicle (in a better way).

    You mean a tune-up?

no. A tune is not the same thing as a tune up

No sir, it’s basically a computer program that changes your truck’s shift points. That’s a very terrible explanation but easiest way to explain it in short terms. I have the KDMax tune but there are a bunch out there.

    Check this thread out:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/kdmax-pro-9-0-tune-by-paparee-and-twtaco.713699/

I have the KDMax tune and I’ve been extremely happy with it. Been running it for probably 20K miles now. I just reached out to my local KDMax tuner.

No problem  I was extremely frustrated with the issue when I first got my truck so I know your pain. The tune was well worth the money.

Is this tune a part I need to buy or I have to take it to a shop?

Basically you can just reach out on the KDMax tune thread or find a different tune you like and there are “tuners” scattered around that will meet with you and install it on your truck. It takes like 10 minutes and they just hook a computer up to your truck using the diagnostics port thing by the steering wheel.

You can also install it yourself if you have a laptop and buy the necessary cables. Then you would just pay for the tune program itself and the tune creators would send the digital files to you.

They have a map here on their website…

    https://kdmaxprotuning.com/

Again, there are other popular tunes that are good as well. I’m just familiar with KDMaxx because it’s what I have.

how do you like it? It’s kinda dumb how Toyota makes these trucks with the shifting issues and the needle bearing issues. You’d think they would catch on and make it a little better. I guess not. I’ll be driving on a straight flat road at a constant speed and my truck will literally up shift then down shift. Like wtf. I didn’t change the throttle position at all.

I love it, it’s probably the best money I’ve spent on anything aftermarket for the truck. It was a night and day difference after the tune was done, it felt like the truck finally drives like it should.

No issues at all with my 2020 sr5. Doesn't matter what speed, or grade you're driving on. You press on the skinny petal and it goes good. This truck has great throttle response vs other toyota pickups owned.

i do not know what the issue is but your truck should not hesitate, tune or no tune. if i were you, before i got a tune i would have it diagnosed. a tune may only disguise an issue that is small and easy to fix at this time.

i would first try a few tanks of fuel from a different source and a different grade octane.

good luck and keep us posted.

My taco has 39,000 KM on it and no issues at all with the shifting or any other problems mentioned here on TW. Tuning to me is a waste of money. Like I mentioned before it is like a placebo pill. just saying
