I have a 2021 SR5 Tacoma (V6 with tow kit) and I was given a newer Caliber 1 206 SKR boat as a gift. I saw that the total weight was around 4,000 lbs but does anyone know if I'll be okay with this weight and/or if I'll slip on the ramp when dropping/picking up from the water?

    Thanks!

For best results, the side with the propeller on it should enter the water first.

    You should be good.

Depending on the ramp (angle, pavement material, wet, algae, etc) it is sometimes useful to flip on 4HI when you are straightened out to back in. The weight won’t be a problem though.

Damn! That is quite the gift. Congratulations... now you get the fun of storing, maintaining and cleaning it. :proposetoast:

^^ I second this advice. Pop it into 4WD when you are straight or only have to make slight adjustments so your driveline doesn't bind and your rig should be good.

@ztacoma69 if it were me, I would take it to a quiet ramp early in the morning and work out your routine. You will feel stressed if your first time is at a busy ramp, in season, with a bunch of people waiting to launch. I am assuming this is your first boat and the first time towing with your Tacoma. If your taco came with the tow package it is wired and ready to go BUT you need to buy a brake controller to connect it to the factory wiring harness. Plenty of brake controller threads are out there - I use a RedArc Tow Pro Elite for my 3500# off-road travel trailer. At your weight you are required by law to run trailer brakes so be sure to get a decent controller.

The weight of that boat does not include the trailer. You need to add 1000 lbs to get a reasonable estimate of the total weight you’re towing so you are looking at towing 5000+ lbs. it’s within your weight capacity but it’s still a lot of weight for a Taco. You don’t indicate that you have 4wd so I’m assuming you don’t. Depending on how steep and wet/slippery the ramp is , it’s may be a struggle pulling your boat and trailer up the ramp. With 4wd you’d probably be ok but without you are going to have problems on some ramps.
Towing it on the highway is a whole different conversation which I’m not going to get into at this point.
I see that you posted your first and one and only post yesterday at 10:30 am and haven’t been back to view this thread since 11:00 am yesterday. Hope this isn’t a one and in the wind post. Be nice to see some kind of response from you.

Boat trailers with brakes, do not require a brake controller. They have surge brakes, that function by the trailer being pushed into the hitch triggering the brakes.
