Hello everyone. I have a ‘23 TRD sport with the halogen headlights. I want to swap them for LED headlamps, but wanted to get some feedback from anyone that has made the swap.

I am looking at the Morimoto headlamps and the Toyota OEM LED headlamps. Are there any known pros/cons of one vs the other? Any known issues? I’m new to the Toyota family and am not familiar with the Morimoto product, but it does have good reviews. I just don’t want to spend a bunch of money on this and then have the lights crap out on me in a year or two.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My vote belongs to OEM. Swapped my halogens to OEM LED a while back and would do it again in a heartbeat. OEM quality is supreme in my book and the product @daveeasa created makes them plug-and-play. Do it!

Aside from the linked post, which is a must read, I’ll add that at the morimoto price point you are much better off spending a little more and just getting oem and a harness. When they go on sale they can even be cheaper. Like $1k with free shipping.
The only real argument for aftermarket vs oem is aesthetics. Some people reeeally want to look different and feel special with an orange drl or by having something less common.
It’s up to you wether you want better performance or to look cool.
It depends on where you drive. If it’s mostly urban commuting and illuminated highways you can get away with something different than if you live in a rural community or take lots of long drives on roads without street lights.
There’s also something to be said for swapping h9 bulbs into your existing lights if you live someplace where snow and sleet will accumulate on the lenses. Halogens will get hot enough to melt ice, and keep your headlights clear. LEDs will not.

    Went with OEM LED.

My fitment was off but it seemed to be a chronic issue with my halogens. None the less. Great mod, you wont regret the visibility.

Highly recommend a harness by @daveeasa as well.

    Best of luck sir :)

OEM all the way if you’re good with reflector type. Looks great, broad beam, significant upgrade from prev halogen projectors.

Blinkers might be a little Audi-ish for a truck but they impress my 6yo so all good.

Thank you all for the feedback and the links. That is quite an extensive review of the bulbs and lamps! Incredible. I have some reading to do but I really love the look of the OEM setup. Thanks again for the feedback.

As others have linked OEM LED is the superior headlight. Morimoto lacks uplight, meaning you'll be blind beyond the low beam cut off. All OEM headlights have uplight so you can see beyond the low beam cut off. The Morimotos do not have a proper pattern that can compete with OEM. The OEM high beam is also superior to the Morimotos as it is a full flood style high beam vs the limited tunnel vision style projector high beam on the Morimotos. Morimoto puts down higher peak intensity in the low beam, but everything else is worse and less useful. OEM is the way to go. All the details covered in the reviews already linked.

I swapped to OEM LEDs. They're good, and a big improvement, but TBH I still wish they were brighter and was a bit underwhelmed based on how popular they are here.

Davessa harness was good but not perfect.

“Bright enough” can be an opinion I suppose but I’m curious what exactly wasn’t perfect about Dave’s harness?
My experience was the definition of perfect and the easiest part of the swap, so I was just wondering what issue you encountered

I wanted the OEM LED's but my truck didn't come with them, so I figured I'd add them later and get Dave's harness to make it easy.

Once I got my Tacoma I realized I can't see what little light dance my headights are doing, because I'm driving the truck.

So now I don't care. If I can't impress myself every time I hit my turn signal it sure as hell ain't worth $1300.
