2001 Vacuum Switch Valve or Solenoid

Hey guys,
I am looking for this part but for the life of me cannot find any solid information on this. I called a few dealerships around me for info and to see if the part was in stock but they said its discontinued and they have no oem options at all. I am interested in replacing this since this think ticks like crazy. I know they should tick a little but over the past month it has gotten significantly louder and louder to the point where I can hear it over the radio.

Any information on this would be appreciated. No CEL light at the moment

Your VSV valve ticking is an indicator that it is working properly. Do you have other symptoms or CEL's that indicate it could be bad?

 

I started experiencing some idle surging but from the information I have been able to find they shouldnt be related, but correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that, no CEL and it was just the increased ticking noise that caused me to finally check this out. It always ticked but was only able to hear it if I specifically listened for it or was at idle with no radio. It has increased to the point where I can hear it much louder and with the radio on (unless its full blast jam out volume).

 

Bummer they don't stock them anymore. You could check Ebay see if any are for sale.

 

The ticking is normal, but if the rubber isolator piece at the bottom comes off the ticking will be much louder and noticeable. I replaced mine a few years ago because of the noise, mine was part number

$55 25860-75230 Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid

25860-75230. Not sure if it's compatible with the one you posted, but it looks very similar. Could try cutting some rubber to fit and see if that helps

I bought mine this month for $92.

@Cucvfan , I believe that is the same one Crusty mentioned so ill have to check that one out, what year/model are you running this on?

 

You have great parts people if the just did not blow you off .After parts 5 years old for the most are lost.

As the years change the part numbers can change I advanced in years till the part was no longer obsolete I was lucky my parts people worked the number magic though it took a few years to train them.

 

Mine is on a 2002 2.7 / 5 speed 4x4. I ordered it online.

@travis500, did you try testing the valve by jumper'ing 12V to it & blowing/sucking into one of the ports to see if it opens&closes?

FYI, my VSV also broke at the rubber isolator the way @CrustyTaco's did. I ended up just gluing it back with some rubber cement + a zip tie to hold it all together.

 

I believe the correct term for the part Travis500 is looking for is the Vacume Canister Purge Valve, not the Vacume Switching Valve. It gets confusing (or atleast it was for me) trying to tell them apart when ordering parts.

The first 1 listed above is for a used part. If your original 1 lasted 20 years, I would suggest spending the $92 and hope your good for the next 20 years.

Is the vacume switching valve. I don't believe that is what Travis500 needs.

This is the toyota Vacume Canister Purge Valve and the Asin Vacume switching Valve side by side.
The toyota part was $92 from Boch Toyota South.
The Asin part was about $40 from Summit Racing.
Both parts were available when I purchased them this month.

 

@csrf I did not, I can try this tonight after work though. I believe it is working properly but ill confirm, if it ends up being find I may just look for some rubber and do the ol' jerry-rig with some glue and zip ties to see if that eliminates/reduces the noise. If not ill look into using that 230 part number, they look identical but hoping to confirm someone else with an '01 running it. My only hesitation with going used is that this one may last 20 years but I could be buying one that is 19 years old.

I used my old stand by a little spot of silicone better then new!

The gasket type of silicone i like the pretty blue it holds it in place after the rubber broke after 20 plus years.

The valve works just fine.

Bring rubber silicone spray might help the internal parts live longer.

 

I'd be willing to ship you my old one if that helps you determine if the 230 part works for you. I kept the old one around, not going to be using it.

i just use whatever is open any of the prematex silicone gasket makers .

When I worked full time I bought the blue by the case.

 

@Bivouac ah wonderful, so you just sealed that to where the rubber bit was, sandwiched it, then zip tied back on?
