It's cold up there though. A titty bit nipply. Breast move is to go inside and turn on the hooter.

Suntory Toki is a great starter. It's an easy sipper neat or with a cube. It's also one of the best for making a highball.
Nikka Days is a direct competitor to Toki but has its own character. I'd suggest either or both if you're planning on exploring Japan's better offerings.

Step up from regular JD, maybe, but not Gentleman Jack. I'd say Single Barrel and GJ are like two different breeds. Every single barrel is going to have its own flavor, of which you're going to get about 250 bottles. GJ is a blended whiskey of many barrels, like regular JD, that has gone through an extra filtering/mellowing process to make it a smoother whiskey.

I just looked for JD 10 and 12 the other day after I signed up for the PA bourbon lottery. Said coming soon. I'll have to start keeping an eye out for it.

I usually go neat but when I have it iced I use the big ice balls. The little lady got me those bullet whiskey stones as a stocking stuffer for Christmas and they just do not work well. Plus I’m always worried about choking on one of them.

I've felt the same about whiskey stones too. Marginal improvement in temperature. I rather use one big rock if I was going to have ice at all.

Also I struck while the iron was hot and went back to the store I got the first one at. Truck just came in for the ER too.

Ok, I have a problem and I admit it. I want to lower my bottle count. I NEED to lower my bottle count. I try, and swear I'll not buy anymore, but, well you know. You know, right? Sigh.

I was out running errands and decided to stop at BevMo to see if they had any Springbank. It's a very long shot, so I figured I would satisfy my curiosity and hold to not adding more bottles. Sigh. Found a bottle I'd not seen before and couldn't resist. The description is intriguing...

We took and impromptu trip to Montreal last weekend. Enroute we realized we forgot to pack refreshment. I bought this at the DF south of the border. It's pretty good as a sipper, straight-up.

I really wish I could say I didn't know the feeling, but after already spending around 5 bills this weekend on bottles, I popped in to Total Wine on my lunch break and bought my first Campbeltown.

yeah m an you guys go all out.

this is a new thing (to me). had a bad drinking problem when was a teenager & early 20's... so my alcohol always had a purpose & there was never anything that wasnt just for consumption. so when my young guys told me this whiskey "tasting" thing was a thing? was a bit confused & also off put by the fact that people would pay that kind of money for whiskey cause after the 3-4th glass you cant taste any difference in any of them.

took a whole new mindset for me to try & learn this new hobby & then we found out i dont have the right "taster" for it. guess i ruined it in my youth?

so the icers & fancy glasses are the way for me to play along with my young guys & still be "the cool old guy".

think those giant ice balls are cool though!!

I'm going back to my Auchentoshan 3 Wood. I did not like it when I opened it, so it's been ignored for a few months. It's so dark it looks like cola. It had a distinct bourbon taste, but not good bourbon. Trying it again, time has been good to it. It's mellowed out and has a decent taste, but nothing stands out. It is thick, oily and creamy, so good mouthfeel. Just wish the taste measured up.

Will do! Not sure how long it'll take to open it, though. I have so many bottles open already! Lol

I've only been on this whiskey "journey" for a couple of years now. I've always been the "how can they drink it straight like that" type. My family get-togethers are all about taking shots. I've only recently started to slow down and appreciate the taste of the whiskey and now I'm one of those who sit there and sip a straight pour... No mixer, no chaser.

As for how many bottles I have... when I start collecting anything, I quickly cross the line from collecting to hoarding!

I'm right there with you, I grabbed this bottle earlier, and that's after telling myself to stop for a bit. My local Costco has the one you picked us, really curious how it is.
