I put on a 2" lift with Bilsteins last year and am considering going with 3" now. I've read that some may have to get a custom cut drive shaft to get rid of vibration while driving. Anyone here have to do this? What other issues did you encounter that needs to be addressed with a 3" lift? Thanks!

Be warned if you have to cut out OEM frame cross-members, your truck may not pass state DOT inspection, depending on the state.

Got it. Is cutting done on a case by case basis or is it a normal thing to have to do it on all Tacos with a 3" lift?

Just wanting to get a little more clearance but also because I'll be carrying more weight on the truck and wanted to prevent sagging. Along with a hard shell camper and the back loaded up with camping and hunting gear, I noticed that it was sitting lower. I'll be getting a heavier duty leaf pack to help deal with it but decided to do some research in possibly doing a higher lift. I'll also be adding a front and rear bumper, winch and armor so it's going to add overall weight to the truck.

Start with doing a carrier bearing drop and a 3 degree axle shim. Most people will not ever need a different drive shaft. Technically a 3" lift in the rear would be 25" from center of hub to fender. (3rd Gen). If you are piling on extra weight then you are not going to see the advertised height from a heavy leaf pack. You can use airbags to help too.

1-piece drive shafts are for those that don't understand how 2-piece drive shafts work (admittedly the science behind driveline angles on 2-piece driveshafts is not easy to understand). A 3" rear lift can be easily accomodated with axle shims. Don't touch the carrier bearing, if at all possible.

Here is my experience with accommodating a 2.75" rear lift: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/opinion-on-drive-line-correction.733293/
