Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2014 tacoma double cab. I’m hearing a slight ticking noise when first accelerating and low rpm up to about 35 mph. any ideas what it could be is greatly appreciated.

Nothing to be alarmed about but check your oil level. These trucks take a true 5.5 quarts with filter but some may only add just a 5 quart container. Slight oil starvation or need to change will cause a slight tick. I would change the oil and make sure you have an OEM oil filter. I would start there and see if it mitigates your ticking noise. See info on oil filters here:

1gr-fe is not a quiet engine, mine tick like sewing machine. Check the oil level if recently bought and the oil was changed check with the past owner to see if they used the right oil , full the tank with new gas ect.

Myself i hear some ticking noise near the firewall driver side. I know it's the fuel line bracket who vibrate to the fuel pulse.

It can be one of the U-joint too or a CV axel. Check and grease the ujoint, they can tick/click if worn out.

I have a small rattle when I accelerate. At first, I found my wheel well flaps were loose. No problem, instead of the plastic clips I used short self tapping screws. Now I still have a rattle when I accelerate. Checked oil, checked for any loose wires, checked Google for answers. Its answer was to check engine mounts, drive train all the way to rear end. I found driveshaft to rearend, one bolt out of the four was only finger tight. So, I took care of that. Still rattles, but only for a moment when accelerating. Googles answered also said to check the trucks pockets for loose change, or items in the glove compartment. Still rattles.

My 2010 has the taco tick . Its pretty normal. One thing i did stumble across when i was in Florida last year is that I filled my truck up with ethanol free gas and I noticed the tick was not even noticeable anymore and i got probably another 25 miles out of that tank.

TACOMA2NDGEN: It's not a tick that's happening it's more a rattle that happens when accelerating. It's comes and goes but it's noticeable. I thought it was fuel but nope. Just maybe something flapping around in the engine bay. Or something that's vibrating. I know I'll find it but in the meantime I have to keep looking.

I had a perplexing rattle that was coming from my air intake where it meets the engine bay side wall, the foam gasket was misaligned.

I kid, normal sounds I have it too.
The 1GRFE is a stupidly loud engine.

Original post a ticking at first start is normal and yes new oil/filter helps.
Also don't know mileage or history but look at the 3 idler pulleys and tensioner for noise - you can pull the drive belt off and spin each to hear and/or feel for wear wobble.
Other rattles could be many heat shields or front cat shield under drivers seat area as clamp and bolts begin to loosen and drop off.
    Enjoy.

The Tacoma tick was a big topic of conversation when the new 4.0 engine hit the street. There have been a number of ideas behind it and a number of posts that are geared to the fix. Toyota seems to be hush hush about it and it never seemed be be damage causing.

My 05 was quiet from day one and has shown no signs of the tick. It almost has me worried. My thoughts were that Toyota may have set the valves at the high end of their spec. just knowing that most people will never get any kind of valve adjustment in the life of their truck and valves generally get tighter as miles pile up. Loose valves do tick in just about any engine.
