Thanks buddy! And dude the pressure was on lol. One mod that I did not enjoy, but it needed to be done.

The carbon was really easy to cut into. Similar to fiberglass, but without the itch. I used a dremel with a harbor freight diamond cutoff wheel. Used only one for everything.

When I did, @Lucario Runner 's, my anxiety meter was bouncing in the red. I had to internalize that to a dark abyss. Lol. So yeah, I think that applies to all of us at some point.

That looks nice. I wish there was a carbon roof replacement, the paint on my 2005 is failing and will need a paint job.

Started working on heat shielding for the underside of the hood, but ran out of materials. Got some more on order from PTP.

Also got the lower headlight filler pieces installed to complete the front clip swap

    Robert,
So is the hood half stamped sheet metal and half carbon?
Also that gold heat reflecting stuff varies quite a bit in thickness. The gold stuff I purchased was a big name brand and was crap as far as I was concerned. I then found this stuff in silver and it was a lot thicker with the fiberglass or whatever they use. I really don’t know but common sense would say the thicker the better for blocking heat. But I really don’t know! :notsure: Maybe someone can enlighten me?

The hood is full carbon fiber from what ive seen after cutting into it.

The stuff im using is 6mm thick. Here's a link to it https://www.ptpturboblankets.com/co...rs/products/ptp-gold-adhesive-thermal-barrier

Im not sure how this stuff compares to the other stuff out there, but i can say it has saved my plastic valve cover from the heat of my turbo down-pipe running right by it. I figured it'd be good for the hood as well. I am not sure if thicker is better or if there is a big difference in the heat abatement abilities of the different materials.

I went with a guy to Maaco in Honolulu, they said they're #1 in country in sales because sun beat everyone's paint down. They wouldn't media blast roofs if paint failed bad enough to develop rust, they would only replace the top panel with new one from dealership only. Guy said he wanted to order the panel online Toyota parts to save money and they wouldn't accept it, said they had to get it from dealership themselves :jerkoff: I had a vehicle painted years ago by Maaco in Spartanburg, SC. I developed rust on roof within a year (didn't even have a roof rust problem when took it in) so I took it in for them to correct, after pulling up the invoice SURPRISE they didn't list the roof as something they painted even though they did the work. I say all this to say, make sure you get every single part listed if they itemize parts on invoice at paint shop, especially Maaco because they got roof rust game on lockdown.

Ahhh yeah the Maaco special! That's what mine got a few years back. It'd probably be a good idea for me to strip my roof down to bare metal and paint it with something else, i bet it's bad under there. My grandpa took me to Maaco and paid for them to paint the roof and hood though, so i was just grateful for the opportunity to get it done even though i knew it wasn't going to be a quality job. Mine was rusting on the roof and the hood was starting when i had mine done. Unfortunately it sounds like their reputation is widespread lol. I think mine will be rocking the patina'd look for a while until i can learn how to paint and have a place to do it myself. The roof might be an exception there though, it probably needs to get the tractor rustoleum treatment sooner than later

I considered painting mine white, two tone taco haha. Can't recall seeing a black truck with white top, I'll see if I can get an image on gooogle to ponder the idea further.

    Hmmm,
Just an FYI Maaco has its own line of cheap ass / junk paint.
Dad was an Auto Body Man & Painter. Dad would do frame & bodywork then do complete paint jobs on colors that would be impossible to match. We didn’t have a paint booth so before auto paints came out with two stage paint we would do the bodywork and prep for a complete paint job. Dad would supply all the paint material they can actually do a decent job. We would pay for complete paint job then dad would supply tac rags, thinners, reducers, hardner, catalyst and the paint. We would get the car back then clean chrome and glass with 0000 steel wool, assemble and wash. Small touch ups we would blow out dust and dirt, turn on the large cooler blowing into the garage and we have fans sucking out the air and over spray out. It would be my job to keep the floor wet. Oh, the good old days.
