It seriously does, that's why I hate that section. You get hung up on crap and dragged off line by random boulders in a Tacoma. In a short wheelbase jeep its relatively drama free.

Yea I got denied going left and right, then turtled in the middle of the trail on my driveshaft and pulled cable.

I was also running like 12psi in my tires and it was kind of damp as opposed to my usual 2, so that may have been a factor.

God damn those rocks look slippery. I should use that picture to describe to people what east coast wheeling is like.

Show them this video. That rock crawl was the only time it wasn't raining for 2.5days there lol.
    https://youtu.be/9BUbzOIWVC0

Side note those toyos were the worst tires I ever ran in the dry, but for some reason stuck to rock like glue in the wet, which is opposite of what evreyone told me they would do lol!! 0/10 would not recommend.

I have been hardcore web wheeling for the past week distracting myself while some family has been in town and staying at my house. So below is going to be some random notes about a possible front end rebuild this winter and a way to catalogue my thoughts. I need to get more uptravel, get the truck riding nicer on the street, some better on trail steering, and right some wrongs I made when I did the SAS.

Hydro assist with a double ended ram tech: https://irate4x4.com/threads/double-ended-ram-hydro-assist.395668/

If I push the front axle forward 4" I gain 2" of uptravel on my current springs. I also need to explore ditching the fj rear springs and tossing something a little easier to find on here. I'm eyeing up some yj leafs. I'm also looking at moving rh front shock mounts and going from having the lower mount on top of the axle to behind and get the shocks working some more and doing its job, this will also give me a nice spot to land the airbump, right onto the knuckle gussets.

I also would like to ditch this stupid Ford forward swing box and go with either a Toyota IFS box or a heep rear swing box, whatever I fall into. In the interim get a "radiator" style power steering cooler and ditch the heat sink style I have now and see if that cools the truck down at all.

    Fj62 rear leaf specs: https://www.generalspringkc.com/1981-1987-toyota-land-cruiser-rear-leaf-spring-6-leaves/

    Yj leafs specs: https://www.generalspringkc.com/1987-1996-jeep-wrangler-front-leaf-spring-4-leaf-840-lbs-capacity/

Thinking a 2" lift spring with either ones of those .

Driveshafts are smooth up to 80 which is awesome, can't wait to bang them off some rocks in a week. It will be a long got week in the garage knocking out a bunch of punch list items I have been kicking down the road. Why wrench when it's in the mid 70s during the day and low 60s at night like it was a month ago, when you can do it in 90* in 90%+ humidity instead??

I finally killed my 10+ yr old car quest AGM battery. I treated it like poo and it kept going, I replaced it with a die hard platinum, so we will see how long that one lasts. I also dropped the PSI in my air bumps down to 50, so let's see how it rides, one is also leaking oil a bit, so I need to address that after wheeling season is over.

Also some foreshadowing to my winter project.
    IMG_20230712_205524921.jpg

I am going wheeling this weekend and I'm going to be taking some temp readings on my current steering and powersteering cooling setup, that way I'll know if I actually did something when I swap my new cooler in after this trip.

I got back from wheeling in WV, of course almost zero pics. Truck did fine, pretty uneventful trip for me. A yj in the club tore a front shackle mount off, so new battery and Bunn trail welder to the rescue! He would have been screwed if I didn't have the welder with me as he flat towed it there.

I'm really getting the bed storage dialed in, which is awesome. It was a disorganized shit show, not bad now.

Uneventful for you is a good thing though! It’s always nice coming home and not needing to fix shit.

I'm waiting on the shop to finish the block. So... it's not 100% my fault.

WOW! I'm not smart enough to know if that was the most intuitive and skilled off-road driving I've ever witnessed, an incredible off-road vehicle, or you are just the luckiest SOB I've ever seen behind the wheel of a vehicle. That was ridiculously impressive.

I don't get rattled easily but I was getting uptight watching. I thought you or your truck were toast several times but you had a measured response to every obstacle.

Nice job! Your right. It ain't much of a looker but that truck sure doesn't owe you anything and I certainly respect that display of adrenaline rush and living life to the fullest. I hope your truck lasts until you either can't get in it any longer or can't remember what you have it for. Either way, you are blessed, enjoy.
