Hello TW, it has finally come to the time for me to swap out my suspension, wheels and tires.

With that being said, I found a shop local to me that specializes specifically for tacoma lifts and upgrades which is really fortunate for me.

I do mostly road driving with the occasional hunting trail, beach camping.
Because of this, I really don’t need a huge lift, just wanted a better suspension over stock that’s “softer” and rides easier on and off road.

after doing much research, I settled on a tire size of 255/80/70.

Talking with the shops rep, they were highly pushing the Toytec Alluma series 2.0 with a Toytec add a leaf for about 2” of lift. With install and alignment for just the lift portion, total would be like $2,300 without the tires and wheels.

My question for all the TW suspension gurus is, is this worth it for the results I’m trying to achieve? I get the Toytecs are rebuildable, however that’s not really a selling point for me as I would have to go to a shop to get them rebuilt anyway.

My total budget for the lift portion is around 2,400$ and I don’t really want to spend more than that. I’ve read that billstein 6112/5160 are an even cheaper but yield the same ride quality which has me rethinking everything. I inquired about fox 2.0s with the shop and the guy told me he didn’t recommend them for what I’m trying to do.

Just really confused on what I could be spending my 2,400 lift portion budget on now. Any advice would be much appreciate..

I’ll check it out however I have no desire to install the lift myself because I get very little free time as is. Any thoughts to the Toytec 2.0? Was my main concern about the setup

You’d probably do well with the 6110 front and 5160 in the rear with a block or AAL. Reach out to @memario1214 at HotShot Off Road for a good deal.

Sorry can’t help with the Toytec lift, or really offer any real feedback about the 6110 besides it’s a popular choice around here.

Depending where you are, you could find a local TW member to help you instal for possibly beers or something. If you don’t care about having a shop stand behind their work.

well I’m wanting to run a 255/80/17 so I don’t think I even need a lift.. just want better suspension. I was thinking 2” was a good compromise because that’s how much most aftermarket coil overs give you. I’m also replacing the bushings with ECGS one because why not.

Bilstein allows stock height on their coilovers (5100, 6112, 8112) with superior dampers

I went through toytec because all my tools are back home in Texas, but if I could install it myself I would. That said the toytec brand is just rebranded Elka shocks, in my personal opinion if I were you id go 6112 in the front and 5160 in the back and maybe get some dobinson leafs or deavers if you want to splurge a bit. The company overall is decent a little difficult to get ahold of at times but the knowledge they bring to the table can be very helpful. One thing you will notice in their parking lot is that hardly anybody who works there runs the aluma shocks on their own personal rigs, to me that says something. The sales rep i dealt with at toytec was a bit of a burnout but he was honest with me about toytec shocks which i appreciate. Also lead times for those aluma shocks were about 3 months from my understanding. I ended up going with fox 2.5 DSCs front and rear with deaver stage 2 leafs, is it overkill absolutely. Getting them installed next week there.
