My guess is somebody wanted to kill the Access Cab and offer only Soccer mom Double cabs. The XtraCab is a compromise solution. No 6MT makes no sense. Money reasons basically. The type of person that would spend $40k for an XtraCab which is a big expensive toy would probably also opt for a 6MT aswell. This reminds me of the 2016-2017 SR V6 6MT. Was only offered in DCSB and only for fleet customers.

Theres always the chance that one could offer the MT with DCLB, its clear that Toyota isnt copy-pasting out of the 3rd gen play book.

    Found it, thank you!

Personally, I really love the design of the cab, and prefer it over the access cab. It looks like there's a ton of storage back there. If they made this exact truck in 4WD I'd be putting an order in ASAP.

Yeah I love the cab design and storage. No MT and no 4WD kind of kills it for me though.

It does look really sweet too.

Storage compartments are nice but not even as much storage space for large cargo as my Access cab. No doors that open to easily slide in long items. Access cab is superior for access and bulk storage. xtra cab fail imho.

I had an XtraCab T100 and found that the space was great but the access made it difficult to take advantage off. Easy to put a LOT of small things back there, but nothing big or heavy. My friend’s 1st Gen Tundra AccessCab was much more useful. As for the MT, in a 3rd Gen V6 it’s a nice alternative to the mediocre 6AT and V6 combo. I’d hope that the new turbo four, hybrid or not, plus 8AT is much better so as much as I enjoy driving an MT, that wouldn’t be a showstopper … for me.

As there is still no official statement, I'm still hanging on the hope that XtraCab and 6MT combo can exist because most likely XtraCab+6ft Bed and Double Cab +5ft bed is the same wheel base, hence, the same frame and drivetrain components.

DCLB is going to be a minority % in terms of wheel base (as far as I know/heard from Youtubers only in Trailhunter, Limited) and that strongly indicates it's an iForce Max exclusive wheel base thus ruling out the possibility of 6MT

That's nice, I'd prefer 4wd as not to many Rwd get allocated to the midatlantic region. There's an anomaly going on at the moment with an influx of Rwd access cabs.

I could always drive this and keep a WRX for winter weather.

I consider Motor Trend to be a reputable source and I posted earlier that they confirmed the MT was Double Cab only on SR, TRD Sport and TRD Off Road.

Toyota didn't want to offer an extra-cab at all on the new Tacoma, but interior volume requirements forced them to.

And rather than keep them practical with half-doors, Toyota takes the cheap way out and omits the doors altogether.

The extra-cab truck looks fantastic with the longer bed...but the extra room behind the seats isn't going to be very practical.

I wonder if they made a MT what kind of fuel mileage it would return on the Xtracab, be cool to have my TRD OR for bad weather and adventures and the Xtracab 2 wheel drive for commuting and other truck stuff that would yield high 20's.

I'm sure that Toyota will realize that they will need to offer the extra cab as an SR trim. They really need the extra cab in an SR configuration to compete with all other mid-size work/company trucks.

I'm pretty sure they already confirmed an SR extended cab.

ExtraCab w/ a manual trans, 4wd, 7’+ bed, and coil suspension. Guess we’ll have to build it ourselves.

I think Toyota just made the XtraCab so you can have more space in the cab for yourself. All that in cab storage space is for marketing, and the focus group bros who need more storage space in their trucks. I think they got tired of listening to their wives who want more closet space. Now they think they need more storage space in their trucks.

I would like to see the Tacoma’s chief engineer Sheldon Brown manage the stuff in and out of what I carry back there, in a side by side comparison of the Access Cab vs. the new Xtra Cab. Think I would enjoy watching him struggle with some of the heavy shit I toss in there.

Sheldon don't look like the most agile guy. I've got short arms myself, that's why I don't like running a roll back can't reach anything. I'd have trouble reaching things in and out of the back of the XC. Toyota would have been better off not marketing the XC with stowage in mind. That don't really work with the 2dr cab. Toyota knows their Tacoma customers like gimmicks, and that's why they added the storage to the XC that isn't easily accessible.

Toyota could reengineer the XC as an Access Cab, and in 2026 it will be like a new idea all over again. Customers will seek them out, and Toyota will continue to under produce them claiming people buy more DC.
