I was looking into this awhile back, personally I was thinking styrofoam like a garage door (light weight) and just install in the recessed of the roof panel flush then covered in similar to the reflectix. That was as far as I got unfortunately

 

Any clue if the latches that you can open from the inside released yet?

 

Haven't been released but someone posted a few weeks back that RSI was calming this summer. Someone messaged their Instagram account trying to get an update.

funny I saw a post from early 2021 that said RSI claimed they were releasing the latches in spring 2022

 

it isn't really that funny anymore.

 

yeah seems like a lot of pandemic boom camper companies took massive orders over promised and under delivered. It's amazing reading through all the different camper threads how many of them end with stories of failed promises and ridiculous lead times. Looks like vagabond drifter guy is completely ghosting people... the rld topper company is in legal trouble and was forced to close.. I guess rsi is more about factory setbacks? But seems like they have failed to deliver over and over. I saw someone ordered an rsi 2 years ago and was still waiting? Wtf.. anyway, I was not looking for last 2 years and come back to find very few thriving companies and a lot of angry consumers!

 

i think a lot of it can be chalked up to growing pains and supply chains. but as i imagine all of us have had a chance to conclude over the last few years, the difference is in how a supplier or manufacturer handles those issues, particularly in terms of communication with their customers and resellers. that is one aspect of their business they can control. whatever else they might be dealing with, there's no excuse for making customers feel like chumps.

The other would be that they took a bunch of orders they couldn't fulfill , and then ran away with the customers money without reinvesting it in their supply chain!

may least in RLD and Vagabond case.. they seem to be straight up fraud.

 

i don't think it's naive to say that RLD probably just got in over their heads. they were in a fine position with a good product in the midst of a minor market boom. they stood to make a great deal of money had they been able to follow through. for whatever reason - lack of investment, business sense, or character - they couldn't deliver. i doubt that was the plan.

 

We still have 5ft sport caps available.

They are building them now. I would day 2-3 weeks and we should start to receive some.

 

Just noticed the stainless nuts within the rail on top of my smart cap. Are these supposed to be sliding around open to the elements?

 

They are pre-installed to be used with Smart Cap Racks or load bars. They are fine to just leave them in there

 

Are those 5' or 6' models from what you know? I've got a 6' Adventure on order up here in Canada and my retailers has been painfully quiet on updates.
