Got a couple of photos. Been leaking for weeks but I just thought the pads were wearing down, or a leaking wheel cylinder. You can see it on the left, looks like it's leaking at the lines from corrosion. Is this the proportioning valve?

Les Schwab pointed it out to me on Saturday, and then they call me today and can't find the valve, or even find the lines if they need replacing (they can't tell if the valve or the line that's leaking).

Now I've called a half dozen shops in the Beaverton, Oregon area, and no one can find a new or even rebuilt valve, and they say they don't have the special tools to fab new brake lines if it needs it.

I bought this Tacoma because of its reputation for reliability and parts were cheap and plentiful, why can't any mechanic find this part or the brake lines to it? I've found 1996 valves from Amazon for $26.00 to Toyota Overstock for $221.00, but I don't know if these will fit. Why can I find valves and the mechanics can't?

I can't "bypass the valve" or tear it out and fix it myself, I don't have the skills.

Can anyone recommend a place I can order the valve and the brake lines to it?

And does anyone know a shop around Beaverton that can help me out? I can't believe a "brake shop" can't even get the parts and fix this common vehicle.

    Many thanks

You can find the parts and they can't because they have to buy through their own specified suppliers.

Maybe try off road speciality shops, or even a Toyota dealership if the local auto shops come up dry. :notsure:

Are you talking about the LSPV on the rear axle?

To be honest, I don't know what a LSPV is. I uploaded a photo. Lines seem to be leaking on the top left valve bolted on top of the axel. Probably just rusted a corroded. Is this the proportioning valve, and how do I find one I know will fit?

Hey thank you so much. What about the lines? They tell me they can't find the lines and must be custom made?

I know this is a tough question to answer, but since this has been dripping for weeks can I keep topping it off and driving easy until a part comes in?

Many thanks. What about driving on this slow leak until I can get it fixed?

None of us are going to say it's a good idea. It's not like a coolant leak- as long as you keep it topped off, it's ok. It's a hydraulic leak, where the lines are under pressure. It could be fine, but then you step on your brake pedal 'cause someone pulled out in front of you, and your foot would go to the floor. It's not something any of us could say for certain was ok or not ok.

The only safe thing I could come up with, would be "capping" off the lines to and from the rear of the truck- but that's just as much work as replacing the valve, so it doesn't make sense unless you're stuck on a trail or something.

Did we not already cover this in your other thread?

It's a load sensing proportioning valve.

As for brake lines, Toyota offers tons of their factory hard lines for cheap. If you can't find any, any shop can make/bend some as it's so easy many people do it themselves at home.

Every shop said the "brake lines are specific and bent for the truck". They won't do ebay for the valve or fab anything themselves, at least the shops around here.

    It's not fab work.

I know you mentioned your condition not being the best to do the work yourself, but maybe reaching out in the regional section you can find someone that'll bend it themselves for ya.

Plenty of autostores like Napa and more sell long hard lines that you would bend yourself.

Have someone just bend up what you need, buy an LSPV online, and replace it all in one go.

If you were local to me and I knew how to bend hard line I'd do it free for ya. I just don't know how as I never tried but others have shared that it isn't difficult at all.

I just posted here on the Oregon local Forum. Thanks for the advice. If I was 18 I would tear the whole axel out myself by hand lol.

By picking your make and model on Toyota's part site (new and updated, it's harder to navigate, yuck), it looks like the Load Sensing Portioning Valve (LSPV) for your year and make is 47910-35330:

    upload_2023-5-30_11-35-28.jpg
I confirmed that from a few sites.

The reason why they are saying they are specific to each truck, is that they are! but it's possible to get the right diagram for your truck and find the lines.

It's also possible to get the raw materials (hard line, and fittings) and just bend the tube to match, slip the fittings on, and flare the ends.

The fact that these shops aren't helping you more is astounding.

Yeah I recall some mention of you having issues; it sucks and I understand as I've got issues myself.

But just wanted to express how "minor" the job itself is.

Would hate to see you get taken for a ride and get charged a ridiculous amount.

A few shops can't even see me until JULY lol. And they are going to charge a premium to me and everybody else. I'm just shocked on a common Toyota they CAN'T find a part? That's crazy AF

I can see the valve and unbolt it easily, brake lines are corroded and thrashed and I just can't get into bending and changing brake lines with my skill, plus got no way to bleed system. I'm just going to have to eat a big bill I'm afraid

Oregon is big, and there are a ton of members out there.

Hopefully you'll find someone willing to do it for a pizza; I know that's all I'd ask for if I was changing lines and bleeding brakes.
