If the DB is fully removed can the panels and middle section fit flat stacked in truck bed between the wheel wells?

I’ve found a great deal on an almost new one but on road trips I often find myself picking up some random big things so it would be nice to remove the cover on the fly for full bed access and haul whatever on top of it flat in the bed. I know most times I can haul on top of DB but I like the security feeling of it in the bed

The panels will fit in the bed, but will take up a lot of room. I guess it will depend on what you are hauling.

They will! But be careful about stacking anything heavy on top as the locking bars do stick out below, and the lock itself sticks out up top.

As the others have said, yes, but it would be way easier (and recommended in my opinion) to just leave the cover on and ratchet strap whatever big item you’re buying to the top of the cover. I’ve moved all kinds of beds, couches, dressers, etc by throwing em up top and strapping em down on the cover. Or if it’s a medium sized item, you can disconnect the struts and flip the rear panel forward to allow for taller items to sit in the rear of the bed.

There is a lot of great info in this thread. I'm about to place an order for a DB cover but I cannot decide between the SE and HD.

My plan is to get some frontrunners and run a small tent when needed (maybe iKamper Skycamp Mini 3.0) on it for me and my wife (combined weight of 290lbs max + ) and maybe a few accessories mounted on the side and under the cover like maxtrack, shovel, etc but nothing super heavy.

Diamondback recommends I get the HD over the SE but reading through this thread sounds like a lot of you are running SE covers + RTTs without any issues? I'm trying to keep the weight of my truck down - I don't want to overload it with unnecessary weight reason why I was leaning towards the SE over the HD, but I also want peace of mind knowing I'm not overloading it.

    SE? HD? SE? HD? :annoyed:

HD capacity exceeds the load capacity of the bed sides so it's wasted. Just get the SE, it will do everything you need while being cheaper and lighter.

Edit: I have an SE and it has handled everything I have ever thrown at it with ease.

Thanks - Glad I found this thread before moving forward with the HD.

Edit: I know the HD haul capacity way exceeds the bed sides but I'm sure the bed sides on our Tacoma can support way more than 400lbs, which is the haul capacity of the SE. I'm guessing the SE can hold more than 400lbs of static weight

Anyone here interested in the Diamondback Switchback? It's their new tri-fold tonneau cover. Looks great to me.

it's nice but it doesn't lock which is the big advantage to the HD/SE

I think the intent is to be similar to other tri-folds, where it kinda just locks onto the rails, and the anticipation is you lock your tailgate so there is no way to open it without opening your tailgate first.

I think the diamondback ratings are dynamic load, BTW.

Lol. I was in the same boat, couldn’t decide. When I bought mine I couldn’t find anything that could tell me if the top would bow in if a few people stood on it so I bought the HD. Either way it’s well worth the money.

It is. In the Q&A for the Switchback they say the static load capacity for that cover is 900lbs.
("Switchback has a 400 lb dynamic load rating and a 900 lb static load rating. As long as you do not exceed these limits, you're good to stand or walk on top)

The construction of the Switchback is almost identical to the SE so I assume the static load limit for the SE is the same.

I'm thinking it can support 3-4 people no problem

No disrespect, but this here is the reason I added the addition cleats to my SE. If you get a DB have all the cleats pre installed.

I wouldn’t call the HD load capacity “wasted”, over prepared maybe but not wasted.
