gear oil question

    What weight gear oil do you guys use?

    - I just changed my rear end fluid today at work (did it while the bosses weren't around) and had one he'll of a time because I had no pump and the spare tire was in the way, so I ended up just using what we had in a 55gal drum which was 80w-140 only because it had a pump.

    Can anything happen to the diff if the gear oil you use is to heavy?

    I think first gen uses 80w-90...

    My question is is there any harm in using a heavier weight gear oil?

    i think it'll just be working harder because of the thicker oil

    Yea...im just gonna run the 80w-140 for a few days to I guess rinse the diff and change it to 80w-90 later....thanks for the inputs guys
