NEED Passenger Airbag Kill Switch

This issue has appeared before but has not been resolved. (linked at the bottom)

My wife has a 2008 base model tacoma with bench seat- no rear seats -no double cab or access cab.
She is pregnant and we need to be able to manually shut off the passenger airbag for the infant in a carseat.

Yes, I know there is a weight sensor in the seat. However, as others have expressed, this is insufficient (for both legal, and peace of mind reasons).

Upon removing the cover where a manual airbag shutoff switch exists on some models, there is no wiring harness that a switch can be plugged into.

From doing some research, it seems like the correct parts needed are:
82140-04010
&
69065-0C010
Which are a wiring harness to plug into the airbag assy, and the switch, respectively. (also the parts are out of stock many places, so I will have to pay out the a$$ to source them, really want to know if this will work first)

However, I am unsure if that will actually work with the computer/airbag system.
Does anyone know about this? Can anyone verify?

Please refrain from unhelpful smartass replies like "give the wife a different truck" or "just have a baby with negative weight so the seat sensor stays off"


If the aforementioned idea and parts won't work
is there a secondary option like spoofing the seat sensor so its always open - so it never "senses" a passenger?
Not ideal, but does anyone have experience with any of this??

Cannot assist with a technical response here.

But I will say this. It is recommended that children sit in a back seat for safety purposes.

Is some DIY airbag toggle switch good enough for your kids safety? I say not.

I recommend you seriously consider getting a different vehicle for child hauling.

Safety should not be taken lightly, especially when an infant is involved. OP may not love the response, but it is important to reaffirm that safety is a concern here.

Call me out for it, but it needs to be stated.

 

SRS advise is a no-go for me...

You would probably have to find a dealer willing to do it and sign a 200 page waiver.

Sorry that's not helpful but no one is likely to want to touch this job. The liability is incredibly high. You may not even find anybody who will sell you the parts.

 

This not the place for ANY advice on vehicle safety system mods. At TW, people get apoplectic and even nasty at the thought of circumventing a safety system ..... even turning off the seat belt warning chime, brings out warnings of "dire" consequences from TW posters intent on saving us from ourselves.......

I think in the end it’s all going to be a gamble if the OEM parts work or not. My hunch is your SRS ECU (tucked under the dash mounted to the floor board) probably has a different part number than the ECU for an access cab that came with the manual shutoff. You can try and cross reference your SRS ECU part number and see if it matches a like-year access cab or something. If it does then the parts will likely work. If not then it is doubtful.

Your reg cab uses a different seat weight system (bladder) versus the AC/DC configs which leads me to believe the ECU is probably different and likely lacks the open port to add the harness you pulled up.

But give it a shot comparing part numbers. My recommendation of course is find a vehicular alternative like the others if the OEM parts do not work out, despite you asking not to hear that.

@fatfurious2 Yes, I am looking to install that switch, but also the wiring that switch plugs into. I believe it is part number 82140-04010 as I mentioned in the OP

@jbrnigan Wow. you can say that again. I am not used to dealing with people who are this easily frightened or made uncomfortable. I don't think they would survive a week in my shoes lol. But I suppose the world needs accountants and actuaries too..... #tolerant haha
