Anyone here add in rear cross traffic monitoring? How much and how hard. Would be a 2023 trd off road.

I meant like why would you go out of your way to have that?

It's not an add in, and any chance of doing so would cost probably well over 1500$ if not more.

It's not like fog lights or seat heaters, its integrated into mirrors, cluster, modules, sonars etc.

It's a nice feature but basically a no go for add on.

Rear cross traffic uses the BSM sonar. I’ve seen the question asked if it could be retrofit but haven’t seen anyone make a post about completing it. The wiring may already be present like the bed lights on 2020+

Yeah but you can't have BSM w/o RCA, its all one package from factory. So good luck adding BSM + RCA aftermarket. It ain't gonna happen.

Yea idk. I do know each of the bsm sonar modules is ridiculously expensive, so even if it where as simple as plugging sensors into existing harnesses and adding a switch, it’d cost an arm and a leg

Very cool! I’d be interested to read about this install. Did you write it up anywhere by chance?

Oh Ye of little faith ... Not for the faint of heart and requires learning new skills. 3rd Gen BSM retrofit is possible.

Some wiring may exist, depending on your model and options. Buying all new parts is cost prohibitive. And if you want to make it look OEM, learning to crimp very small connector terminals is a must.

    Stay tuned!

    Thank you.

I plan to document/share my experience doing the OEM BSM/CT retrofit.
Lots of time invested studying wiring diagrams and learning that most Toyota connectors are Sumitomo.
Also, it took more time to locate the correct crimp terminals to fit the connectors.
Since I want OEM quality, had to learn how to crimp tiny 0.64 series terminals accurately to fit the connector housings.

If "taps" and "compression connectors" are used vs OEM connectors and/or generic LEDs vs BSM mirrors, the cost and complexity of the retrofit can be reduced substantially.

    More on that later ...

    PS:
At $600, the OEM BSM/CT option is reasonable.
I was offered my spec truck (incl. both sonar-park assist. and BSM/CT) for $10K over SRP in Greer SC.
Decided to settle for my spec, minus BSM/CT for much, much less and do it myself.

My brandmotion still works like a champ!! Rear cross traffic is awesome.
    Last post about it though.

Thanks for the Brandmotion info. A good alternative to OEM.

Awesome man. I do really like my aftermarket unit though I prefer the lights on the inside now not in the mirrors easier to see, and the brandmotion is almost $700 now I paid $500. But great job. I’d definitely do whatever is the cheapest but the brandmotion was only if I remember correctly 2 turn signal wires, 2 wires go to obd, 1 ground, 1 12 volt it was pretty simple.
Great to have another solution for this. :)

Thanks, it was an interesting challenge.
Possible to do with all salvage parts, except custom wiring.
A patient picker can do it quite cost effectively.
I'll provide additional details, the pin-out that I used, in case anyone would like to replicate.
