DIR Tacoma Mod (flashing)

Hi guys! I'm in need of some help or advice. I did this easy plug & play mod that deletes the reverse licnese plate lights so you can see clearer. At first, everything was working fine. However, the next week I noticed my left taillight was flashing/blinking whenever I go into reverse.

This was the side that I installed the plug & play mod. Do you guys think I have a bad led bulb that's going out? My right taillight reverse led bulb has no issues. Or does it have something to do with this plug & play mod?

Please, any help, tips, feedback is appreciated. Thank you guys!

 

How long after the mod did it start ?

 

I don't remember exactly when. But I think it was 1 week ago

 

So you installed it a week or so ago and now it’s doing it ?

 

Yeah pretty much. Just wondering if it's the bulb that's going out or if it's the actual harness that's making it flash/blink

@EmanC19 when you say blinking, is it a steady pattern, or just kind of a random on/off? The harness itself passes the reverse signal though, but it is possible there is a loose connection. Can you try a couple things?
1) check all three connections on the reverse bulb. The two where the harness goes, and check the that the bulb is seated well in the socket. If everything seems good, then try:
2) try swapping the bulbs from left to right. If the problem is the bulb, the issue should follow it. If it is something else, the problem should stay on the left.

Let us know. We'll figure it out one way or another

 

Just disconnect the DIR at the license plate intercept for a quick check on if it’s related. Basic troubleshooting.

 

Though if there is any problem with the reverse signal itself due to not seating the connector then you would rule that out with the steps Johnny provided. Disconnecting the intercept with the problem remaining tells you that the DIR’s logic is not the fault. It’s possible that a loose connection with the T harness on the reverse circuit may be trouble in which case removing that portion will rule that in or out.

 

Its more of random on/off blinking... I plan to try those two steps you listed. Ill report back here, thank you!

Reporting back! It looks it was a bad led bulb. I replaced the bulb & hooked everything back up. It's all working normal again. Thanks @daveeasa & @Puppypunter for the troubleshooting tips & thanks for making great products!

 

Was that bulb flashing?

 

It was flashing/blinking on and off at times. I then noticed it was completely out. So, I just replaced a new set of bulbs for each tail light. Hooked up the DIR mod as is & everything started working fine again.
