Hey Everyone, 2016 Tacoma with A/C Issues.
Bought the truck in Fall 2019 with 83,000km and it was cold but not as cold as my other vehicles, dealership topped up freon Spring 2021 did it again. The whole air system has always made some weird hissing sounds when running and now it’s not really blowing cold at all.

After doing some research it looks like the Evaporator Core is a common issue on these truck espically 2016 models.
Has anyone had theres replaced or can reccomend a good shop to fix my A/C?

I’m in just outside of Oshawa, Ontario but don’t mine travelling for a reputable shop

not heard anyone fixing it. the issue with pressured systems is that it could be leaking from a hairpin hole somewhere and you'll never find it without soap an water. Could be the core, it could be a line.
don't know any immediate shops that deal with A/C (especially since it's getting hotter now) but i'd imagine any autoshop could do it

Haven't heard of a recurring evaporator issue with leaks. The hissing sound TSB is a refinement (noise) issue, not functional issue. Mine hisses but I elected not to have the dealer tear apart the dash for it during the warranty period.

Go to a dealer and have it diagnosed. The dealer can do a leak check with a detector wand and by pulling a vacuum in the system. There may be a leak at a joint or at the shrader valve. The high pressure hard line going into the condenser can be struck during winch bumper installation, causing a leak. Are the plastic caps on both shrader valves?

Note current trucks use R-1234yf while earlier 2nd gens use R-134a refrigerant.

Just had my evaporator replaced on my 2017 at the dealership, luckily I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the truck in 2019. Started losing refrigerant and had a hissing noise about 3 months ago when no leak could be found at the dealership at that time. I noticed an increase in the hissing noise as well as a lack of cooling again when I took it in this time, they said I had lost about half of the refrigerant in that 3 month period. Kept the truck for 2 days and finally found the leak
