    Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member and am going on 3 yrs with my 2006 Tacoma. I love it. I installed a hitch this weekend. That was simple. Next came the wiring the plug for the lights. a tech persona at toyota said i needed to remove the tailgate, then the rear most metal plate on the driver side. He said the connector (plug and play) would be in the tail light housing. So i removed all the bolts and the tail light got wobbley but wouldnt come out... The plat that I was supposed to remove wouldn't do to the plast bedliner holding it there... I just need to plug this in and cant seem to do so. Please help. I have tried googleing step by step instructions for this and have come up short. Help would be nice. Thanks!

All you have to do is crawl under the truck disconnect the tail light connector(it twists). Plug it into the wiring harness, which the plugs into the tail light. There is no need to take apart the tail light.

There might be a ground wire that you bolt onto the frame. I'm not sure, I haven't done it in a few years.

I removed the light and there was no extra plug there... i just learned that they make wiring kits for a 4-pin but nothing for a 7 pin... I guess i'll start splicing and rewiring... thanks everyone...

You need a vehicle specific wiring harness like this one and an adapter like this one. You can probably pick up the same items locally, the ones linked to above are just examples.

I see that you have a 4-cyl. Many of the extra connections that are on the 6-cyls are not one our 4-cyl. trucks (the fog lights wiring is another one).

You need the vehicle specific wiring harness for the taillight converter circuitry.
