I seem to remember reading that the full benefit of tunes don’t apply to the dynamic cruise control. Can someone verify? I love using the cruise on the highway, but the gear hunting on my ride home tonight was pretty bad. How do the tunes work with cruise? I can’t seem to dig up the thread where I read about this. I’m considering going the OTT route.

I run the KDMAX 10.0. It works with radar cruise on my truck fine. Just like driving with your right foot. No crappy shifting like stock. I have seen some TW people with issues even with a tune with radar cruise. Might just be a Toyota feature.

I also have a older KDMAX tune and my dynamic cruise works perfect.

Thanks guys. This is exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like the dynamic cruise still works fine (which I already knew), but the adjustments made to shift patterns don't apply to the dynamic cruise. That's too bad since the shifting while using dynamic cruise does a bit of hunting (at least for the terrain in my area).

But, I imagine any added torque and horsepower that comes from the tune would help prevent some of the gear hunting? Not sure if that would be the case, but I hope so.

yes, it still drives much better better. I wouldn't let this small part detour you from getting a tune.

I'm definitely planning to get a tune. I tow a trailer and ATV and would love the benefits of the tune for that. Was just hoping that the new shift patterns applied to dynamic cruise since I really love that feature of the truck.

But glad to hear it does drive better from increased power.

Although adaptive cruise control functionality is not something that is altered or changed by a KDMAX tune the overall dynamics of a tuned vehicles performance seem to better suit the adaptive cruise control significantly in comparison to a vehicle which is not tuned. In my opinion.

Aside from that, keep in mind that you have the option to disable adaptive cruise control and engage Constant Cruise Control which preforms as expected with a tune.

Note: you will not have adaptive braking or acceleration in this mode. Be midnfull.

    • Just hold the cruise control button down for ~2sec to disable the adaptive cruise control.
    • It will display "Constant Cruise Control " on the dash LED screen.
    • It will revert back to adaptive every time you start the truck.

FYI, this is good to know regardless. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize that was an option for the cruise.

Also, it makes sense that the "programming" isn't open for remapping the dynamic cruise given the potential safety concerns there (braking, radar, and all that stuff).

Anytime, here to help. That is a factory available option.

As said above, just remain mindfull that the vehicle will not utilize the adaptive control and you will need to be fully engaged. Just like the good Ole days.
