Would it work to Plastidip my wheels like this?

So far, I have Plastidipped my center cap emblems red and changed the lug nuts to black (see first pic). I like the look better than stock, but still don't love the chrome on the wheels. The rest of my truck is dechromed.

I've thrown around the idea of taping off the center of the wheel, and the tire area, and just Plastidipping the chrome section black, but I'm curious if anyone else has tried this and if it's worked. My plan would be to tape a paper plate down to the center of each wheel and plastidip around it (see pic 2).

    Thoughts?

There are a few companies out there that make vinyl overlays for the machined part of the TRD OR wheels. Here's one.

The decals are going to be much easier than trying to plastidip that are and have it come out decent.

I hate to be that umm actually guy but I will be... your wheels are not chrome... they're machined. That being said, I think the vinyl overlays would work best!

I plastidipped my wheels almost 4 years ago and they are still going strong. I put 14 coats on them though, waiting ten mins between coats. I took the wheels off the truck, and put index cards at the edge of the rim to not get any on the tires. I took the center caps off and taped over where the lug nuts sit. Then put on the plastidip over an afternoon. I think I let them fully cure overnight, then installed them. They have even survived tire shop repairs. About to get new tires, so hopefully they hold up.

I installed the decals three years, 34k miles ago. A CO winter and AZ desert summer. They have held up well.

Yes, I knew that and should have said “chrome color” not actual chrome.
